I remember seeing Thune in his presidential run awhile back.
My one thought was, “He is as dumb as a stump”.

The arrogance from Thune is breathtaking. We have the #2 (in more ways than one) GOP Senator going on Fox to deliberately antagonize the most engaged wing of the GOP voting base.
Why does the GOP have a death wish? It makes no sense unless they want to be a minority party and emerge in a decade or two as a Romneyesque Democrat lite party.

I don’t agree with everything you write but Trump is definitely damaging MAGA now when he talks of endorsing these coup supporting GOP Senate dirt bags in 2022. Let them get their votes in Democrat cities. Most of all we need a genuine opposition party to the progressive-corportist agenda and Thune once again shows the GOP will never be one.

An interesting insider note from Politico points out a tenuous albeit proactive position by President Donald Trump toward the institutional republican party and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
While the Politico outline is transparently positioned from the leftist narrative toward the chasm amid the establishment vs MAGA base of Trump supporters, the information -if accurate- does align with a forward looking President Trump positioning to confront the corporate wing of Republican elites.
The primary way President Trump can leverage, and ultimately defeat the DeceptiCons, will be through the financials.
President Trump has already announced the MAGA community should make political contributions through his Save America PAC. This approach will ensure his ability to fund MAGA candidates and target internal GOP adversaries for primary challenges.
The threat of targeted primary challenges was why Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy visited Trump in Mar-a-Lago, and it appears McCarthy’s pleas fell on deaf ears because a few days later President Trump announced the targets during his CPAC speech.
According to the article insiders, a second way President Trump will target the financial aspects will be to restrict the republican party from using his name in any manner except that expressly approved by him:
[…] “Trump and his new campaign team are also cracking down on the use of the president’s name for fundraising — a huge draw attracting small-dollar donors. Three sources told us that Trump, who made his fortune licensing his name, has felt burned and “abused” by the GOP bandying about his name to haul in money.” … “One Trump adviser said they’ve been sending out cease-and-desists to faux PACs using Trump’s name to fundraise, among other demands to knock it off. (link)
The control over the political funding mechanisms, in combination with control over who can use the Trump name for fundraising, is a powerful position to take over the internal party apparatus. Combine the monetary control with a MAGA base who will not support any candidate President Trump does not endorse and there is a clear process to remove the DeceptiCons.

The RINO traitors are truly demented if they think a single Trump voter is ever going to vote for them again. It appears they actually thought back in November that their treachery would be forgotten in time.
The 2022 primaries can't get here quick enough. In a way I'm grateful for their treachery -- they have ensured that Trump voters will vote for their primary challenger. Too many RINOs have been entrenched for years without facing a primary challenge because "he's popular in his district and can't be beaten."

You’re dealing with the massive, incredibly wealthy DS/Big Tech political complex. If McConnell and the Uniparty (R) US Senate Campaign Committee need cash to fend off Trump promoted candidates financed by us, the DS will provide. The media campaign provided by the DS controlled press will be more valuable than anything a Trump candidate could buy. MAGA is doomed if it is allowed to be dominated by the Uniparty (R) any longer.

I remember, before I was enlightened to what scum the elite were, how happy I was that this guy had won office. We had considered it a victory. Yet it was just more swamp slime wrapping itself around more power. It was the same when Pat Toomey replaced Arlen "Not Proved" Specter. It was great in the beginning, but we ended up with another entrenched clymer in the end.
I've said many times over the years that giving up a seat to get rid of a RINO was preferable to keeping the RINO so long as the goal was to replace the RAT who took the seat with a conservative next time around. Maybe that's the better way to go than the likes of Thune and Toomey who, far as I recall, both seemed solidly conservative but may have just been sufficiently different that we overlooked what was really there.
Of course, the real solution is not have government in every aspect of our lives so it doesn't matter anywhere near this degree what Congress does, but that ship hasn't just sailed, it's orbiting the galaxy with a 12 parsecs headstart.

Declaring you’re establishing a new party just paints another target on your back.
The 1st rule about forming a new political party is you don’t talk about forming a new political party.

I’m not sure I see your point...Congressman Thune chose not to dispute a close election in 2002, then went on to win a statewide contest for US Senate.
One might argue losing gracefully in 2002 propelled him into higher office.

I think there’s a better strategy than “Primarying” Thune.
How about backing a real conservative in the Democrat primary? Conservative Republicans could cross party lines and join with Conservative Democrats to beat a left wing fanatic.
If it doesn’t work, and the left wing Dem wins, worst case - vote Thune back in.
Problem with the Primary strategy is that if it’s successful, Thune will either run as Independent, or his supporters will sit out the general, throwing it to the left wing Dem.

Thune took out Tom Daschle. For that we should be thankful. 2 terms. After that WE should have found someone else. Noem is a lady. She should stay home in SD. What’s left? I see no bench there.

I seem to recall Thune made a promise before he was elected to the senate to only stay in office for either 1 or 2 terms.
That was a very long time ago.
