Republicans continue to embrace Trump's election lie at rightwing summit (barf for thee, but read with glee)
The Guardian ^ | 27/2/21 | Sam Levine

Republicans have continued to embrace the myth of a stolen election at the annual rightwing conclave of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), underscoring how the party continues to sustain the baseless idea months after Donald Trump’s loss in the 2020 race and the deadly assault on the Capitol.

This year’s gathering of some of the party’s most fervent supporters has a staggering seven sessions focused on voter fraud and election-related issues. Several have inflammatory titles. “Other culprits, why judges and media refuse to look at the evidence,” was the name of one panel discussion on Friday. “The left pulled the strings, covered it up, and even admits it,” was another. “Failed states (GA, PA, NV, oh my!)” is the title of another scheduled for this weekend.

Several speakers on Friday repeated debunked falsehoods about the election. Deroy Murdock, a Fox News contributor, repeated the lie that there were “mysterious late-night ballot dumps” that swung the election for Joe Biden and that there were vehicles with out-of-state license plates unloading ballots in the early hours of the election. Both of those claims have been debunked. Advertisement

Stoking fears about fraud and advocating for stricter voting rules has become commonplace among Republicans in recent years, but in the wake of Trump’s presidency – and his loss to Biden – it has become a common rallying cry in the party. Even so, some observers said the focus on fanning the flames of the conspiracy theory at CPAC was still alarming.

Well, they have a long way to go to match the years of the media's "Russiagate" bologna after Hillary Clinton's loss in the 2016 race.

“Debunked falsehoods!”

I’m still waiting for the prosecution of all those people who swore under oath they witnessed fraud and illegal activity during the election. Should be an easy case for any State prosecutor as the fraud has been “debunked”. Wonder why they are not brought up on charges of lying under oath?

I see no change in the party whatsoever.

I see a lot of people who are clearly fooling nobody but
themselves with the idea the party is under Trump’s
control and there is a big movement in our direction
under way.

Delusion grandeur..

With all the excellent comments I see here, I surmise that somebody gets it. The MSM do not get it. I would ask them the unanswerable question, if it is an election lie, how do they know? They have not investigated anything. None of the mountain of facts and evidence have had any kind of evidentiary hearing in court. I suppose a few blatant partisans might give their opinion, but that changes nothing. And nothing is what I agree with or believe out of the MSM.

The Guardian article links to this Reuters article, which claims to debunk the vote spikes in WI, MI, PA. It says the spikes were the result of the heavily Dem areas reporting - but it says they were not 100% for Biden.

Reuters cites 538's website as their source for all numbers.

The posts claim that there was a spike of 1,000,000 mail in votes for Biden in Pennsylvania on the night of Nov. 3 to Nov. 4.

The FiveThirtyEight election blog update at 8:29 a.m. EST on Nov. 4 by Dan Hopkins, which shows a graph of the Pennsylvania vote count on the night of Nov. 3 to Nov. 4 ( here ) does not show a dump of 1 million votes for Biden alone. Between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. EST the graph says that both Trump and Biden’s votes increased by approximately 1 million. The biggest increase was from midnight to 3 a.m. after which the tallies stayed very stable, not 2:00-4:00 a.m. as the social media posts suggest.

I know (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that as of midnight Trump led by around 700K in PA. The next morning his lead was down to something like 10K votes. Therefore, he and Biden could not have gotten a million each between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m.

The Guardian article says the MI vote spike was the widely reported clerical error. Otherwise, no vote spike.

There was also confusion over the Biden vote count in Michigan during the night of Nov. 3 to Nov. 4, when Biden received 153,710 votes in Shiawassee County, instead of 15,371, meaning his vote count jumped by much more than expected.

This is what they say about WI:

FiveThirtyEight told Reuters that it is not true that Biden received all the votes in the overnight dump: “These batches were NOT 100% Biden votes; behind the blue line, there is also a red line representing the thousands of votes Trump gained. There are also counter examples, where Trump’s line shoots up suddenly when a favorable batch of results are reported.”

Going to their linked 538 web page, I can't find any of the actual numbers they're referring to. It's a social media type of web page with comment after comment in real time.

I have not seen anyone anywhere try to explain the unbelievably high turnout levels in those Dem controlled counties. There is no plausible non-fraud explanation.

That's the narrative, and they've turned the volume up to 11 which is suspicious. If it's so false and a bunch of nonsense, why all the hysterics to bury it. Saw some news reporter last night editorialize his report with "Trump's discredited claims of vote fraud" - discredited how? And by whom, exactly? They can't say so because it hasn't been. And this was on a local not national news broadcast. Wanted to throw a brick through my TV.

“led by around 700K”

That’s what it was. I went to bed thinking “they can’t cheat, he’s too far ahead”.

When I woke up and saw what was going on, I felt like a piano dropped on me. They were actually TRYING TO DO IT. RIGHT IN FRONT OF GOD AND EVERYONE.

My assumption was that the country would be in a hot civil war by the end of November. Stealing the right to control the nukes? Unheard of. Even the tiny fraud that Richard Daley and Jim Wright pulled off in 1960 wasn’t anything like this.

They are tying themselves into knots trying to talk it away but everyone knows now: they did it, and the current “President” is a pretender. The internet companies are vomiting out propaganda to try to legitimize Biden but it’s increasingly obvious that he’s a dead husk, a cadaver propped up probably by amphetamines.

I don’t know where it goes from here. In my ancestor’s day, the squirrel guns would have come off the mantle. Now we have the very thing that Jefferson said would bring tyranny: a standing army. And worse, police agencies which are no better then the Chekists.

At this point, the harder they try to insist that they have legitimacy, the more everyone sees....they don’t.

The underlying assumption is an insult. They think it’s their job to tell the sheeple what to think, and that if we don’t believe them, somebody else is telling us what to think. But the idea of we the people having our own, independent, rational thoughts is an impossibility, especially not the rubes and hayseeds who voted Trump. So either he told us what to think, or Rush did, or FNC did. This is why they really think Trump incited a riot.
