Looking through my Billboard Top 40’s book (1955-2000), I found two great MTV video songs from England:
Fine Young Cannibals - “She Drives Me Crazy”, No. 1, 1989
Escape Club - “ Wild, Wild West”, #1, 1988.
Didn’t Donovan do “Season of the Witch”? A very interesting song that was used in a movie at the end where a woman is skating on a pond to it.
Bee Gees (Born in England, Moved to Australia in 1958) - Just saw a show on Md. Public TV show on them, one of their shows in Australia. Many great songs recorded in both countries, including:
* To Love Somebody
* Lonely Days
* JIVE TALKIN’
* Nights on Broadway
* How Deep is Your Love
* STAYIN’ ALIVE - Long live DISCO!!!
* NIGHT FEVER
*
* Edison Lighthouse - “Love Grows Where my Rosemary Goes”, #5, 1970, one hit wonder group but the lead singer Tony Burrows was also in “The Brotherhood of Man” - “United We Stand; and “White Plains” - “My Baby Loves Lovin’”, #13, 1970. all essential “one hit wonders” but really lovely and catchy songs
and lastly,
* CLiff Richard - “Devil Woman”, #6, 1976
Maybe we should do a song search for singers/groups from Scotland and Canada. Lots of great songs and talent from those places.
