HONOLULU (AP) - A new class of U.S. Navy vessel is expected to be deployed for the first time in Hawaii as part of a sweeping force redesign.
The Light Amphibious Warship can pull onto beaches and costs between $100 million and $130 million, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported.

LAWs pull on to beaches and are ticketed for being on the beach without approval or permit by local property associations, the town, the mayor, while irate property owners scream about their views being blocked.
Um.
all the anti-Mil tree hugger Libs would go apoplectic
—
Not to mention property owners screaming about the 400 footers blocking their views and tearing up their pristine beaches and grinding precious sea life into mush, while making such a horrendous racket no one can hear themselves think ... wait ... these are liberals so thinking is not something they do much
To be made in China no doubt.
I have no beef with The Navy but I often wonder how useful warships are in this technological age of drones and driverless vehicles. Sure, we need to prevent blockades and the like (though it would be virtually impossible to blockade the USA) and we could enforce blockades with unmanned vehicles in the sea and air.
Why would you want to buy WWII LST’s. They’re not designed to carry today’s tanks and armored vehicles. Also they’re propulsion system is totally antiquated and most that still survive are 80 years old and likely not even close to being seaworthy.
All of them.
The Persians did this in 479 B.C. They pulled their warships up on to beach at Mycale because they were afraid to fight another naval battle after they got whupped at Salamis the year before.
That’s nice; the Navy now has a 130 million dollar ship that can become a stationary target for LAND BASED ARTILLARY!
They actually gave a few practice landing beaches here. Out at Bellows . The Marines have to practice .
How about on thise cool little reef islands the Chinese have been building ?
I can beach my $300 canoe.
It is very EASY to PULL ONTO a beach-—
NOT so easy to PULL OFF again.
I should have said build. $100 million seems like a lot for one of these ships. If one is planning landings I would hope you have air superiority so they could be fairly simple. In addition, how many times are we really going to use?
One also has to ask why are we landing somewhere else, when we don’t protect our own borders.
Waikiki here I come!
So... a duck boat with a gun mounted?
re: #11 video link...should have a don’t watch if you’re on acid warning

got me to click hahaha
I think this video is well made...parts could have been directed by Salvador Dali, especially about 0:55 seconds onward (just a russian band that I found...you can mute the sound if necessary)

Nice song well made video, wonder about the lyrics...
The lyrics don’t seem to be connected to the video story, and the imagery in the words doesn’t seem to translate very well into english, I think. The Chorus...
Before you, before you
How was I supposed to know,
That you can’t stop loving
And don’t get tired of breathing.
Before you, before you
I would only have to walk
To look up to heaven
We come alive again
