Lots of crowding, people leaving hospitals. I’m listening to a local police scanner and it’s insane. 4-8 hour waits to get water stopped if pipes burst. People crapping in bags all over. The floods that’ll be here will probably be the worst part of it. I’m praying my washing machine in the garage doesn’t bust open, the knobs were frozen stiff when I left and couldn’t shut one off.

I wonder if people living in homes don’t know how to turn their water off to keep pipes from busting. Drain the line.

That said, homes aren’t built the same way down there to combat cold

Don’t know the vintage of your house or the type of water pipes installed. Some of the newer homes with PEX plastic tubing (usually red or blue) can apparently tolerate some freezing. Traditional copper tubing, not so much.

As a last resort, you can shut off your water main where it enters the house. Usually there is a hose bib or faucet located above the shutoff which can then be connected to a garden hose to drain the water from the lines.

A burst water pipe under pressure can really be a nightmare.
