Of you turn on your gas stove, does it work? Many hot water heaters are gas only. Still work in an outage. Depends on the type. Many have done away with pilot lights in favor of electric starters.

So the gas supply is still reliable.
It’s only the supply to energy plants that’s having the big problem

My gas water heater has a pilot light with standard thermocouple to drive the thermostat/valves. The gas furnace has an electric ignitor. Since the furnace also needs electrical power to drive the fan for the forced air, it's no big deal. There will be hot water without electricity. The wood burning stove in the family room can heat the whole house with a single log, so there is a fallback.
