Democrat Senator Bob Menendez and a number of other leftist lawmakers on Capitol Hill will officially introduce a massive amnesty bill backed by the White House and President Joe Biden Thursday morning. The legislation will be known as the "U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021" and rewards at least 11 million people who came to the country illegally. From the Associated Press:
While the plan offers one of the fastest pathways to citizenship of any proposed measure in recent years, it does so without offering any enhanced border security, which past immigration negotiations have used as a way to win Republican votes. Without enhanced security, it faces tough odds in a closely divided Congress.
The bill would immediately provide green cards to farm workers, those with temporary protected status and young people who arrived in the U.S. illegally as children. For others living in the U.S. as of Jan. 1, 2021, the plan establishes a five-year path to temporary legal status, if they pass background checks, pay taxes and fulfill other basic requirements. Then, after three years, they can pursue citizenship.
Recent reports also show the Biden administration stripping legal terms like "illegal alien" from government documents.
Department of Homeland Security officials have been directed to stop using words such as “alien” and “illegal alien” from communications with the public or within the agency when referring to people who aren’t US citizens in an effort by the Biden administration to recast immigration terminology.
The planned wording change, recounted in a memo obtained by BuzzFeed News, is the latest flashpoint in a yearslong debate over the way immigrants are described in federal laws and by the agencies that oversee immigration.
The term "alien" is found within US Code and is regularly referenced in the immigration system and in court rulings to describe everyone who is not a US citizen. In recent years, however, the word has been wiped from the California Labor Code and the Library of Congress after advocacy efforts.
Meanwhile, Republicans are sounding the alarm about the consequences of Biden's sweeping executive actions on illegal immigration and warning the policies are tying the hands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
??JUST NOW??
@RepJamesComer & @Jim_Jordan sent a letter to @ICEgov expressing concerns over reports the Biden Administration instructed the agency to no longer take action against dangerous criminal gangs or serious offenders. Here comes the killshot.
We don’t need this. It will turn us into a third world country.
And we have the traitorous Supreme Court to thank for it.
"The Democratic Party Voter Registration Act of 2021"
Somehow I dont recall this being a big issue during the election.
Biden didnt raise the issue hardly at all.
Now it’s the centerpiece.
Funny that.
And Trump was too busy trying to market himself to all the non-white groups to go back to what won for him in 2016: illegal immigration.
Too bad, that.
This sort of thing has been tried before. Consider the Roman social wars. That led directly to the constant unrest over 50 years that ended up bringing down the republic and leading to a monarchy.
Well, at least the Dems are going to try to make “honest” voters out of them . . .
Menendez only cares about these people because they are Hispanic like him. He doesn’t care about America. He is racist.
The only other possibility is he knows they will more than likely vote Democrat. That makes him evil. Take your pick.
“Without enhanced security, it faces tough odds in a closely divided Congress.”
I predict it will sail through easily thanks to the RINOs.
..at least 11 million people who came to the country illegally.
That is such a BS number. The official number used to be 35 million ten years ago, then poof, the feds and their media changed it to 11 million. I would bet that there are more than 11 million just in the border states.
And if now it is ok for them to violate federal laws, why do we have to follow federal laws?
What country to move to???
This is a loser for the conservative side either way it goes.
If it passes, the Dems immediately have several million more “legal” voters.
If it doesn’t pass, the Repubs will be blamed, cast as xenophobic and the Dems immediately have several million more “illegal” voters.
Literally, can’t win for losing . . .
RE: If people from country X can come here, then Americans should be free to enter country X, set up shop and/or collect benefits and vote.
The problem is most country X are so poor that there are no government benefits to collect. Why do you think they all want to come here from country X in the first place?
There’s nowhere left to run.
I’m not crazy how Trump ran his campaign. I thought it lacked focus and message discipline, two things that are critical to national election suceess. But, I would point out that Trump did better with working-class whites in 2020 than he did in 2016.
The reason Trump lost is because he did significantly worse with college educated voters, the voting block that is least worried about illegal immigration. In 2016, Trump won college educated voters 47-46. In 2020, Trump lost those voters 48-55, an 8-point negative swing with 40% of the Electorate was fatal to the campaign.
FIRE UP THE LAWSUITS!
Shop for CONSERVATIVE Judges to tie this up in the courts with injunctions if ever passed.
