Support for a third major political party is higher than ever in the U.S., according to a new Gallup poll. Sixty-two percent of those polled say the Democratic and Republican parties "do such a poor job representing the American people that a third party is needed."
Support for a third party has grown most dramatically in recent months among the GOP, rising from just 40 percent last September to 63 percent today.
On its face, this might seem like good news for those anti-Trump Republicans who are reportedly mulling the idea of assembling a "center-right breakaway party" in an attempt to wrest America's conservatives from the grips of former President Donald Trump. Alas, it's not a more moderate party that America's disaffected voters want. "More Republicans want the party to move to the right than to the center," Gallup's Jeffrey M. Jones writes.
The idea of an anti-Trump faction was hastily rejected by a number of party leaders who fear that splitting the GOP would risk paving the way for Democrats to make inroads. Instead they're hoping to "reform the party from within," according to Reuters.
Republican strategist Alex Conant told Reuters recently that any new political movement would fizzle without a charismatic leader. He added: "If somebody was going to start a third party that was going to gain some traction, it would be Trump."

Oddly enough, that seems to be the goal of the GOPe.
Exactly. And that is what the pollsters and media wants.
I'm sick and tired of this thinking that we have to hold on for just ONE more election and then we'll be able to reform the GOP.
Trump wasn't able to reform the GOP. No one can.
It's time for an America First party.
If the Leftists saw that the GOP was truly splintering then they would either form a new progressive party or join with the Greens. Then we would have a four party system and that would allow for short-term coalitions to support Americans over the elite crocs in the DC swamp.
Helicopter rides from the Pinochet Air Tours Company, for the legislatures would be a nice start.
Third Party? Absolutely when all we have is the uni-party and its tap rooted hold on us all. Time to take a Roundup bath and watch the tap root digest the remedy.
What if both factions walk out and start new parties?
The GOP letting the Dems steal elections and colluding with them to pass amnesty means permanent Dem control too.
So your doomsaying falls kind of flat at this point.
Yup. And we all know it. And more will continue to come out about their filthy dem allegiance. All the more reason Trump who always thinks bigger then these fools can take the party away from them. We’ll see as the midterms approach.
New poll says....nuff said
This is Yahoo/Reuters wanting us to go third party.
A third party will be quickly infiltrated just like the republican party was. The left is expert at infiltration. In fact there is no guarantee that a third party does not start out with a far number of deep state trolls in its power structure. Trump could not even clean up the DOJ. A third party could start out with someone like Bill Barr having a lot of control.
It’s a pretty good article, actually.
My opinion is, a new party right now will not work because of all the crap the leftist do. Until we get them out of power, nothing will change. We get traitors OUT, simple. We know who they are.
We’ll see how good that looks after 2 years of rat control of everything.
I don’t consider myself a Republican any more. I changed my registration to “no party.”
Just who is in the GOP? Get the GOP traitors out first! We know who they are. Who thinks that a new party won’t attract the same GOPe scum?
Same as it always has been. People quickly forget when ‘carrots’ are thrown in their faces.
So does continuing to vote for Republicans who don't want to tackle wide-spread election fraud.
Saying that is permanent Dem control.
I do see your point about electability, but Lincoln won with a minority and so can we.
I've been here for over 23 years, and have heard the same thing all those years. Nothing's changed, and it won't. The GOP is corrupt. Rudy had an easier time getting rid of the Mafia.
We can’t do that while the GOP is blocking for the Democrats.
