The Oregon Department of Education is seeking to root out white supremacy in mathematics, manifested by emphasis on “getting the right answer” and making students “show their work.”
As reported Monday by the attentive folks at the College Fix, Oregon’s progressive Department of Education has furnished educators with an 82-page training manual titled “A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction: Dismantling Racism in Mathematics Instruction.”
The education department mailed the manual to teachers as part of Black History Month.
The manual enumerates signs of “white supremacy culture in the mathematics classroom,” which include a focus on “getting the right answer,” an emphasis on “real-world math,” teaching math in a “linear fashion,” students being required to “show their work,” and grading students based on their demonstrated knowledge of the material.
“In order to embody antiracist math education, teachers must engage in critical praxis that interrogates the ways in which they perpetuate white supremacy culture in their own classrooms, and develop a plan toward antiracist math education to address issues of equity for Black, Latinx, and multilingual students,” the manual declares.
The unavoidably racist and thoroughly demeaning implication is that black students are not capable of “showing their work” or “getting the right answers,” and so teachers must lower the academic bar or remove it altogether.
An impartial observer might even suggest that assuming that students of color are incapable of competing on a level playing field is a manifestation of the deepest form of “white supremacy.”
What the manual never succeeds in explaining is how dumbing down mathematics will magically eliminate “mathematical inequity,” a proposal that is counterintuitive.
It was not long ago that literature and film celebrated heroic educators who, against all odds, challenged their students to rise above their situations and achieve academic success.

hey! That’s white supremacy confirmed. You showed your work.
He should have NO competition from these morons.
The management cult is made up of people who think that being able to do simple arithmetic in spreadsheets is somehow qualifying to take charge and run actual engineering companies.
It’s the revenge of the non-nerds...
The problem is they cover up all the problems they cause until the game runs out and the company gets trampled in the market. CYA is apparently a mandatory course in the Biz schools.

Have se reached peak insanity yet?
So now is asking a white kid to show how they arrived at the answer still white supremecy? Can ALL the kids do this now or just the ones who aren’t white?
white supremacy is a form of "its society's fault".
blame society + victim mentality = rationalization for failure and parasitism (need for reparations, welfare, and looting)
But, but the Paks and Indians are often darker skinned than some American blacks.
Just give them all a diploma at birth and educate the children with an aptitude to learn.
Pretty soon “whites being allowed to have jobs” is white supremacy. Think that sounds laughable? Imagine saying “math is white supremacy” 10 years ago.
At the very least, don’t let them build foot bridges over highways.

But merit is considered racist and, if he doesn’t check the right boxes or has something conservative in his social media, he might find it hard to get hired. The world has become a really weird place.
Um, wow. They blew the interaction equation at the interface. Sorta basic. And then blew off the cracking.
Jeezus. That’s why you have us old folks look at the calculations...crap like that should jump right out at you.
Isn’t school itself “white supremacy”?
These race-hustlers with do/say anything to create the black victims.
My son wanted to attend a "magnet" school in Marine Biology sponsored by Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego. To attend the school, he had to board a bus at 5:30 AM and return at 5:30 PM at the bus stop. The school was located in southeast San Diego. Predominantly hispanic and black student body. His aspirations to academic excellence made him the top fly on the dung heap. Frequent beatings at "recess". It was a day care center with 2 meals per day. Poor academics. Scripps? They showed up every other Thursday for 30 minutes. What a sham. We pulled him out after drive-by shootings occurred a block from the school.
It took 3 weeks for my son to "catch up" with his class in Mira Mesa. I still had to correct his math and English work as his teacher was incompetent. The only net "win" from the experience is he got some valuable total immersion Spanish language learning and it a totally fluent Spanish speaker today.
I supplemented his education at home. He was reading Einstein's Theory of Relativity. There were some references to trigonometry. He asked and I supplied instruction on the topic so he could continue.
Bottom line: don't let the idiots screwing with academic excellence destroy the education of your children. Supplement at home and leave those jackasses in the dust.
Eventually to come: Making kids go to school period is ‘white supremacy’ too.
Therefore, teachers are inherently a product of ‘white supremacy’. Please fire every last K12 teacher in this country, kkthx.

Next the LW will blame White Supremacy for the Pakistanis and Indians for advancing in math and medicine and electronics!!!
I will make a confession to my fellow Freepers: I am really bad at math. Now, I can manage the basics; but, when I hit Algebra, my taking math classes was at an end.
Anyway, one guidance counselor told me that if I wanted to get into college, I needed 2 math classes, I only had one. So, my senior year I reluctantly took a second Algebra course. Well, on one test I got every problem wrong except one. I did all of the calculations wrong; but, came out with the right answer. I had a couple of friends, who were in this teachers' advance classes and they talked him into giving me that one correct answer. He had said that he couldn't believe that I had done everything wrong; but, got the right answer. So, he gave in to my friends and I got ONE right answer on that test.
OR -- are they NOT saying that the teachers cannot actually teach this subject because they do not know how to do math themselves?
