It Is Time to Take Our Focus Off of Trump
Townhall.com ^ | February 16, 2021 | Michael Brown

Posted on 02/16/2021 9:19:21 AM PST by Kaslin

I don’t know what former President Trump’s future may hold or what his political aspirations may be. But I do know this: I will not be focused on his every move. I will not be looking to him to revamp the Republican Party or save America. And while it is possible he will do much good for both his party and the nation in the days ahead, I suggest that we take our focus off Donald Trump. It is time to move on.

Again, I’m neither discounting nor inviting another Trump run in 2024. Instead, my emphasis is on the word “focus.”

Trump has been at the center of many of our lives for the last five years, and not just politically.

He has been the subject of many a family discussion (not to mention divided quite a few families, too). He has filled our news feeds. He has dominated our social media pages. He has flooded our TV screens.

But elections are over. The impeachment trial has ended. Trump is not front and center in the news. Now is the perfect to move on. The spell of Trumpmania has been broken.

There is life beyond Trump, politics beyond Trump, economic challenges beyond Trump, immigration issues beyond Trump, culture wars beyond Trump, international problems (and solutions) beyond Trump.

And, from a spiritual standpoint, a thousand times over, there is life – and ministry and calling and service and all kinds of fruitful activity – beyond Trump.

That’s why I tweeted, “I don't know what former President Trump's future political plans are, and it's way too early to talk about 2024. But this much I can say for sure: the focus of my life is on the Second Coming of Christ, not the second coming of Trump. Only One has preeminence in my heart.”

To be clear, I do not claim to be a political pundit. My commentary on political issues is devoted to the intersection between politics, culture, morality, and spirituality.

Others can offer sage advice on what is best for the future of the Republican Party. Others can envision what role for Trump is best.

What I can say is that, from a spiritual perspective in particular, Trump has been a great distraction (and for that, I blame us, not him). Perhaps you’re recognizing that now?

In the past, as fellow-believers, we used to debate points of doctrine. Instead, for the last five years, we have debated Trump.

Our social media pages were once filled with scripture citations and inspirational quotes. For the last five years, they have been filled with stories about Trump and the latest political news.

And has any gospel issue held our attention and received our fervent prayers the way the last election did?

Obviously, not everyone falls into these categories. I say “us” in a broad, generic way, not a comprehensive or exacting way.

But the fact is that many of us did, in fact, lose our focus. We got off track. We allowed secondary and tertiary issues, however important they may be, to become the primary issues.

Draining the swamp became more important than preaching the gospel.

Winning the election became more important than winning the lost.

Exposing electoral fraud became more important than loving our neighbor.

Many of us talked about Trump more than we talked about Jesus.

To repeat: we lost our focus and we got off track. That’s why now is the time for a great reset for the Church of America.

Some are still wondering, “What will happen when the Supreme Court reviews some of the cases of electoral fraud? Will Trump then displace Biden? And what about all those prophecies? I still think there’s something to them.”

To those who share these sentiments, I say with all humility and respect: it really is time to move on.

There are other matters more worthy of your attention. And no, Trump will not displace Biden during his presidential tenure. That ship has long since sailed, and it is not coming back to harbor.

Whatever the reason might be, there is something unique about Donald Trump, and not only is he highly polarizing, he is highly attractive. He draws attention. He makes news. He himself is news.

In the past, people paid money just to put his name on their product. And if you’ve ever stayed at a Trump property, almost everything in your room has the Trump name on it – from towels to chocolates to slippers. It is all about Trump, all the time.

And that’s what has happened in many of our lives over these last five years.

Let’s have a major reset in our personal and corporate lives (spiritually speaking). Let’s step back and ask ourselves what our priorities should be.

Will Donald Trump have a political future? Will he continue to be an influential player in the years ahead? Time will tell. But that should not be where we put our focus right now.

Instead, there’s only the Second Coming that should have our attention, and we should live in light of that Return – which means in the light of eternity – every single day, starting right now.

As Peter wrote, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming” (2 Peter 3:10-12a).

It is time we refocus.

Don’t tell us that, Mike, tell the obsessive-compulsives who populate the country’s federal government and media. They’re the ones who have elevated a third-rate invasion of a public building to the sacking of Rome. And I don’t think that “Yeah, they stole the election, it’s time to move on” is very good advice anyway. It isn’t time to surrender and it never will be.

” the focus of my life is on the Second Coming of Christ, not the second coming of Trump”

I think the second coming of Trump will come sooner.

This author wrapped himself in Trump....not us. And we sure as heck don’t need a reset nor our churches. Both of which have their missions which have been very clear..politically and spiritually.

Draining the swamp is the only issue. It’s the gating, prerequisite issue.

His claim is that focusing on this was a mistake, and now it is time to focus on something else.

Only a swamper would write something like this.

“Don’t mind us, we’re controlled opposition.”

Focus, what focus? The Federal Government under total Democrat rule is a collapsing, dysfunctional disaster. Focus is hardly even an issue. Preventing inevitable economic calamity should be where all attention and efforts are engaged.

But Nancy wants to appoint a “9/11” style commission to investigate the 1/6/21 “riot” at the Capital Building. She wants to waste more money, more time, and prevent Americans from recovering from her enforced economic suicide America has been forced into.

She wants to end any chance of a Trump comeback, by any means necessary or available. She does not care, about the law, the Constitution, or the people of the United States. This should be obvious by now, because such realities are even being discussed by the leftist media.

She does this, without concern about her future and that of her party, simply because tyrants seldom are circumspect.

The author’s a Pastor so sounds like he’s had his own personal struggle between politics and spiritual things...got too wrapped up in Trump himself.

Exposing electoral fraud became more important than loving our neighbor.

Morals need to be upheld. Stealing is a mortal sin. When you don't hold up what is right you get the corrupt society we now live in.

"Moving on" doesn't uphold good morals.

Secondly, we can focus on several things at once. Just like the author is doing right now. Basically, being a hypocrite telling us what not to do by not doing it himself.

This nonsense of "stop talking about Trump" is just that. You practically cannot talk about Trump because you will be cancelled, doxxed, abused, etc...

We do need to recognize that Trump is an indicator, not a cause. He felt the pulse of a chunk of our population and built a political vehicle for it.

The people who resonated with Trump have not lost their passion or their motivation. But they will likely need another leader to get it done, due to Trump’s age and the fact that he has received many war wounds. He will be able to influence from Mar a lago without all the incoming fire and undermining of the swamp critters.

While it is important to remember the basics of our faith, we cannot stand back and let the enemies of our faith destroy the last freedom-loving country and turn it into a dictatorship, which is happening at an alarming speed. Keep our eyes on Christ, but also stand against the Enemy, bc, as we know this is a spiritual battle being played out in the heavens. We have a powerful Enemy that most don’t ever take notice of, but we have a more powerful Advocate. We should never stand back and let the culture fall to our Enemy without standing on the Truth!

We need to confront the left wing media and politicians with being anti-family, anti-local government and anti-constitutional. We need to confront them for using the persecution of Trump as a strategy for persecuting the American culture that was built before they got their dirty fingers on the political knobs.

Talk is cheap and the written word is too, apparently. All these losers want to do is focus on the next shiny object. Who's paying them for this garabge they write?

In some circles, especially on the so called 'right', talk and the written word fills a number of bank accounts...

The man Trump was/is a man of action and fulfillment of promises... These chatter and word smiths, have produced absolutely nothing but hot air. I personally would love to see the lot of them literally begging on street corners.
