Mitch McConnell says Georgia Senate runoff was a 'fiasco' and warns he will get 'fully involved' in primaries

Mitch McConnell made a subtle dig at Donald Trump as he branded Republicans' losses in the Georgia Senate runoff election a 'fiasco'.

The Republican alluded to the former president's baseless claims of voter fraud which tainted much of the lead-up to the crucial votes and is thought to have helped suppress GOP votes.

Trump's refusal to concede split the party ahead of the runoff which resulted in the Republicans losing their Senate majority.

McConnell told The Wall Street Journal: 'Georgia was a fiasco. We all know why that happened.

'Getting candidates who can actually win in November,' is the priority, McConnell said.

He added: 'That may or may not involve trying to affect the outcome of the primaries.'

McConnell said 'electability' was the main factor for him rather than any particular brand of Republicanism.

McConnell's comments come as Sean Hannity called him 'sanctimonious' and warned he will soon be challenged for leadership of the Republican party after he excoriated Trump and his conduct in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. However, McConnell still voted to acquit the president when the Senate voted on his impeachment.

Mitch’s minion Karl Rove savaging those candidates nightly on Fox did not help.

and just what is McConnell’s track record supporting candidates? He is has been a Republican leader for many years. So what is his won/loss record?

This seams to me to be an inappropriate question.

RINO china Mitch's track record is not the Issue. The Issue is PRIMARIES and choosing to vote out INCUMBENT Rs. Every last one of them, in all locations in all races, local, state and national

In Senate races in IN, DE, MO, NV, DE Mitch assisted the Democrat to win when the GOP nominee wasn’t to his liking.

Those may be the most recent. People do tend to forget and therefore keep repeating the same mistakes.

Let us go back a few years - Mississippi, china Mitch and Haley Barbour 2014

I wish that Kentuckians would get “fully involved” in removing Mitch from office.

Yertle has done this before. He’s clueless

I must disagree. It is US who are clueless as WE keep voting for RINOs that china Mitch helps put on the PRIMARY Ballot.

(Why do the good people of Kentucky keep voting for this guy?)

I live in KY and there is a simple answer to your question. No one will try to primary McConnell. You need someone to challenge McConnell. No one has.

So, what do you expect we republicans in KY to do?

Like your question, I have read many others asking the same thing.

So I want all you on FR to stop your “what’s wrong with the people in KY” and use common sense as to why McConnell is still in office.

Keep slinging your little nerf arrows mitch, it only serves to prove what an upstanding perso. Trump is, and how low you sir have sunk! Your betrayal of the US and the party exposes how despicable rinos have become. Keep driving more and more people to support Trump and to drive the rinos into obscurity. Your petty hatred is palpable sir

So, voting for a Kommie at this points becomes a valid option, unless of course you think that doing the same thing over and over again will yield a different outcome.

Possible case of insanity occurring here?

They lost because Trump made the runoff about him, and voters didn’t like it one bit.

So, you’re saying that not a single Kentuckian will step up to the plate to challenge McConnell? Not uno. Zip, zero, nada.

The Georgia Senatorial races were about Trump, you are correct. The voters chose to support Trump and refused to vote for china Mitch's RINOs.

Now that china Mitch's RINO Perdue is setting up to run again in 2022 - Are you ready to vote for the RINO?

If so, why

First, McConnell is wrong about why Georgia’s senate seats were lost. It was continuation of the fraud of the general election, not Repubs not voting.
Second, McConnel has interfered numerous times in state elections for Senator because he doesn’t want someone who he cannot control. He wants ass kissers and his interference has resulted in lost seats, much more than any Trump interference has.

Couldn’t it be that the Georgia voters were too stunned & emotionally spent by the fraud in the national election that was allowed to stand to turn out and vote. Looking for personalities to blame the loss on is likely wrong and misdirects a solution to teh problem. I don’t think Mitch mattered much in any Georgian’s thinking other then by conservative poiitics enthusiasts like on the site. Loeffler & the other one (So noteworthy I can’t remember the name!) offered little inspiration to go and vote for again.

Truth is this site doesn’t represnt the thinking & motivations of most voters even conservative ones. Maybe it should but it doesn’t.

Thad never cared about anything except bringing home the bacon to Mississippi and improving his own personal finances. I remember reviewing a financial disclosure document before his last Senate run; the number of stock trades filled more than a dozen pages, and Thad turned a tidy profit on them.

Then, it was disclosed that Cochran’s “landlord” in DC was one of his top aides, who was also his girlfriend. Turned out the two had been shacking up for years, even while Cochran’s wife was in a nursing home back in Mississippi, in the final stages of Alzheimer’s.

And finally, when Thad’s health began to fail, he resigned from the Senate and moved into the state veterans home in Oxford, based on his service as a naval officer in the late 50s/early 60s. It was perfectly legal, but left a bad taste in many Mississippians mouths; Cochran was a millionaire, with resources to pay for a private facility. Wonder which poor or working class vet got moved down the waiting list to make room for Thad.

He was a sleaze, just like the rest of McConnell’s minions.

Mitch is the leader of the Controlled Opposition.

Anybody he endorses is Deep State, by definition.
