7.1 earthquake off coast of Japan. Two counties in Japan are without power.
In before the inevitable tsunami warnings (that never quite seem to pan out)
Boxing Day in 2004 did.
Wasn’t there a Big One off the Australian coast the other day?
Maybe CO2 levels have crossed a threshold?
How’s that reactor in Japan doing? The Fukushimi reactor - has it cooled down?
Just by way of comparison, the Japan earthquake of 2011 was magnitude 9.0-9.1. The magnitude scale is logarithmic.
TOKYO (Reuters) - A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 hit off the coast of eastern Japan on Saturday, shaking buildings and triggering widespread blackouts, but there appeared to be no major damage and no tsunami warning was issued.
The epicentre of the earthquake was off the coast of Fukushima prefecture at a depth of 60 km (36 miles), the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The earthquake, which hit at 11:08 p.m. local time (1408 GMT), and shook buildings in the capital Tokyo and elsewhere. The Meteorological Agency said no tsunami warning had been issued.
About 950,000 households were without power, government spokesman Katsunobu Kato told a briefing carried on public broadcaster NHK. He said there were no irregularities at two nuclear facilities, Fukushima Dai-ni and Onagawa. Authorities were still checking at Fukushima Dai-ichi, he said.
NHK said there were no reports of irregularities at another nuclear facility at Tokaimura, in Ibaraki prefecture.
This is 1/100 the magnitude, correct?
“..About 950,000 households were without power,..”
In japan... about 2 city blocks...lol.
Always the exceptions to the general rule.
Darn near 10 years!
Lasted over a minute, but no tsunami.

A couple 8f smaller aftershocks since at around the sane depth.

True, and I generally point out to others the fault of statistical outliers in argument. :)
“This is 1/100 the magnitude, correct?“
Anybody who’s been in a 5-6 M earthquake will rightly fear a 7M.
Biden’s fault!
I literally thought that verse was referring to where people dive. So one time my parents took me to a lake where kids were diving off a ledge. I told them that we need to get out of here quick!
