When food prices go up in our favorite stores, or the stores close--as they did in Long Beach--most uneducated people are likely to blame those selfish capitalists. That's how it is portrayed on the nightly news, and it's reinforced by the local Demorat mayor blasting the store management, the chain's executives, the stockholders, Trump, everybody but the real culprits--the city council that implemented the job-killing higher wage,

Yea, no joke. But not 100% sure if this bill would affect unions proportionally, as I think it's just a general $5/hr boost for everyone, probably tied to the governor's edicts of which county is a certain color of "hotspot" or not. So union members would get the same $5 boost as everyone, not a proportional 150% boost or anything.

But yes, the company costs definitely go up a good deal more than just the $5 an hour. Off the top of my head, an employee costs about 1.2-1.5x their pay, depending on benefits and such. So that $5 an hour is actually closer to $6.50 or so for most base-level employees.

I really think these companies should just pass these taxes on as a line-item on the bill. If this makes labors costs go up 50%, and labor is 50% of your total costs, then drop a 25% surcharge at the end of every check, specifically labeled as "The Democrat Emergency Tax Surcharge" or something like that - get the $$ to cover it so you stay in business, but make sure your customers know that it's not you doing it, it's the Dems. Really, I think alot more places (gas stations especially) should have a much more detailed receipt of all the government costs and whatnot that go into your bill. Payroll too - companies should be showing their employees how much they actually directly cost, cause most people have no idea companies pay half of their SS/Medicare taxes, UI taxes, or how much the company pays for your insurance. It's crazy.
