I've read that certain “Constitutional experts” are claiming that even if the Senate fails to get two-thirds of members voting to "convict" Senators can still vote to bar the President from holding public office in the future...by a simple majority.

I'd be willing to bet that that's exactly what will happen. And that will be when Roberts having refused to preside will come into play...because there can be no doubt that the President will challenge such a vote before SCOTUS.

Senators can vote to what ever they wish.

We can vote to replace them................
