I don't know. Whatever they're doing now seems to be working as people are surviving it better. Some people get bacterial pneumonia and do fine with oral antibiotics. Some people get it and need IV antibiotics. Some people get it and die. 43,381 people died of bacterial pneumonia in 2018 out of 1.5 million people diagnosed with it. We're good at treating pneumonia. We have government mandated core measures that we have to meet as soon as we make the diagnosis and that has really reduced mortality. We don't have anything like that to guide us through this Covid business so we have to use best evidence to guide our practice. Physicians can't really just do whatever they want. they have to follow the best evidence or else you get like what we used to have in America-quacks literally blowing smoke up people's rectums to cure them of their ailments. They have to follow the best evidence available to them.

I'm not even saying I like all these doctors or trust them or that I think they're all equally competent. They have certainly done me wrong and I'll never forget it or forgive it. I just understand why they don't just do what the internet tells them to do though.

To some extent they can.

They can send you home and not give you a darn thing until you need to be hospitalized because there aren’t XZY studies proving XYZ..and you can end up dead

They can say I can prescribe this to you. It may help. It is off label.

I would rather a Dr let me try Ivermectin rather than have to go to court to force them to try to save my life with it..or have to sneak in horse paste.
