The city of La Vernia is considering the replacement of its two electronic voting machines.
The proposal to replace them, at a cost of $9,385, elicited lengthy discussion during the Jan. 14 La Vernia City Council meeting, held virtually.
City Secretary Brittani Porter presented a proposal to replace the city’s aging Dominion machines with new ones from Election Systems & Software (ESS).
“Everyone’s pretty much doing away with Dominion,” Porter told council members, referencing allegations of voter fraud surrounding last November’s presidential elections. Also, Dominion is no longer supporting maintenance for the machines the city has now, she said.
When considering new equipment, Porter checked with the Wilson County Elections Office, and was advised the county had recently replaced its old machines — also Dominion — with ESS equipment, using grant funds.
“It’s a little more expensive,” Porter explained, adding that La Vernia is “the only one in Wilson County still using Dominion.” If the city purchases ESS machines, it “can work hand-in-hand with the county,” she said.
Councilman Jay Hennette questioned if the Texas Secretary of State’s Elections Division had offered any advice or support regarding voting equipment. Porter advised no such direction exists.
“So we just get to make this decision on our own — a small town?” he asked. “No guidance from the state? That’s just fascinating to me.”
“Especially given what we just went through [with the Nov. 3 election],” added Mayor Robert Gregory.
Councilman Dianell Recker was “floored the city is still using Dominion, given the proof they were having issues. … Do we have to have electronic voting?”
“It’s more a convenience for voters,” Porter advised.
Hennette asked if the city had explored other alternatives, in addition to ESS.
Council members took no action, instead asking Porter to reach out to the Texas Secretary of State and other avenues to explore alternative sources for electronic voting machines in time for the city election in May.
“I’m a fan of electronic voting,” the mayor said. “It’s a good service to have.”
A small town? How about a hand count of paper ballots?
The Honorable Mayor is totally retarded...
Those machines should just be chucked—not replaced.
Isn’t ES&S suspect too?
Apparently Nevada has a contract with Dominion into the next decade.
It's too late. Switching from the manufacturer of one rigged roulette wheel to the manufacturer of another rigged roulette wheel isn't going to change reality that every Democrat, Independent, and Republican voter now knows without a doubt that their vote doesn't matter.
This is Lucy telling Charlie Brown that she really won't pull the football away next time.

Says who?
I don’t think there will be elections in the next decade. Maybe one more for old times sake. But it will just be for the last brain dead person who believes we really have input
Democrats will have to cheat to get any republicans elected going forward
I flipped over to CNN last night for a SECOND and saw Cuomo interviewing the CEO or whatever of Dominion about this lawsuit. Deadly, deadly serious according to Cuomo and Dominion. Do the Cuomos dominate the market on stupidity? This one and his brother the governor are certifiable....
Headline: La Vernia officials jailed for attempting to switch from dominion voting machines. Son and daughter expelled from university. Bank accounts seized by IRS for year long investigation. Facebook and Twitter accounts banned.
Well, there's the problem, right there. Any municipality or state that has to "consider" getting rid of Dominion machines IS the problem, not the machines themselves.
getting rid of those giant analog voting machines was a huge mistake. They never broke down nor did they need software updates.
I never thought I would say look at Florida for anything serious, (and I haven’t really) but some say they have improved in the third world voting sweepstakes
The real catfight is going to be watching the Democrats primaries.
Not because of upstart Republicans or Independents running in the Democrat primary.
Democrats rig and steal Democrat primaries from other Democrats.
So; their thinking about replacing one crooked vendor with ANOTHER CROOKED vendor!
