In the lead-up to the 2016 presidential election, a Delray Beach man is accused of using his popular social-media accounts to intimidate and mislead voters in an effort to help former President Donald Trump win, according to a federal complaint.
Douglass Mackey, 31, used Twitter and Facebook accounts that operated under the alias “Ricky Vaughn” to spread disinformation in the form of memes, messages and hashtags that he developed for the goal of influencing voters, according to the complaint.
He was arrested on Wednesday and later released on $50,000 bond. Public records show he lives in Delray Beach.
His Twitter handle and alias is a reference to the character Ricky Vaughn played by Charlie Sheen in the 1989 film Major League. One of Mackey’s popular Twitter profile pictures featured a modified image of Sheen wearing a Make America Great Again hat.

The left acts as a team. We don’t.
If this is set of rules that has been used then we look forward to 90% of the main stream media in jail.
Isn't that basically what half the people on twitter do every day?
Election workers were literally re-running ballots after hours, cia flipping votes from italy, dead voters, out of state voters, multi-voters, etc...
and THIS is what the cops are investigating?
some guy online posting memes???
Are you freaking kidding me?!
DOJ is officially a joke...
We will not be intimated
Babylon Bee?
I want to know what happened to the truckload of ballots that went from NY to PA right before the election or the suitcases of ballots that were pulled out in Atlanta during the counting. I hear nothing about substantial things just about people being rounded up for protesting at the capitol and using twitter to promote Trump. My suspicion is this guy is being railroaded and being made an example.
If I am ever again on a Federal jury, the FBI and DOJ will have an impossible task to get a conviction out of me.
He posted digital literature. How is that intimidating? People can just ignore it.
Yea I am still trying to figure out what crime has been committed here.
That’s not quite accurate.
The truth is the left act like bullies but we don’t stand up to them.
It’s not about acting as a team. It’s about standing up to bullies. This is what Trump does and it’s why patriots love him and wimpy republicans don’t like him.
Rick Vaughn was a heck of a closing pitcher for the Cleveland Indians back in the 90s, I tell ya. They used to call him “Wild Thing.”
If it’s a crime to use memes and “disinformation” to influence elections, then pretty much all political consultants, journalists, and politicians are headed for jail.
You mean conservative ones. Liberals are a protected class in this country.
The DOJ should be laughed out of court on this thing, but we do live in Clown World, so ... Telling Hillary supporters that they could vote by social media is a crime?
The sad thing is that he will not be able to get donations for a legal defense fund unless it’s in crypto.
You have to read the article all the way through.
The headline and the first few paragraphs seem non descriptive and even over reaching, but then later in the article, they describe how this guy allegedly conned people into thinking that they could text their vote and have it count. The article claims that 4,900 people actually did that.
He didn’t even have the ability (as Xiden’s campaign arm, GoogleTwitterFacebook) to suppress ALL negative stories about Joe . . . the dude made memes!
