Most of the time, Americans pay scant attention to the rules that the House and Senate choose to govern themselves. We laugh when the House decides to go for gender-neutral language, but none of us thinks that makes any real difference. However, in the Senate, "China" Mitch McConnell has paved the way for a rule change that will allow the Democrats to alter forever America's longstanding structure and enable them to become a permanent governing class.

What would happen if McC didn’t agree to proceed on the vote? Wouldn’t the dems just bulldoze over his objection anyway?
re: handshake deals with Democrats never hold. They always cheat. It reminds me of the “no new taxes” pledge of Bush. Kennedy said he would cut expenses if Bush would give in and allow an increase in taxes. Bush held up his side, but the democrats reneged and refused to cut expenses. Bush lost the election as that broken pledge was hung around his neck.

Proceed on what vote?
And the truth: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) indicated on Monday night that a power-sharing deal could move forward after two Democrats reiterated they would not nix the 60-vote legislative filibuster. "Today two Democratic Senators publicly confirmed they will not vote to end the legislative filibuster. They agree with President Biden's and my view that no Senate majority should destroy the right of future minorities of both parties to help shape legislation," McConnell said in a statement. "The legislative filibuster was a key part of the foundation beneath the Senate's last 50-50 power-sharing agreement in 2001. With these assurances, I look forward to moving ahead with a power-sharing agreement modeled on that precedent," McConnell added.
Why do so many people on our side like just to engage in false narratives anymore? Why do we want to become more and more like the Left?
That is correct.
But people care more about narrative than the facts. Just look at how “AmericanThinker” spun it and the comments.
But of course in this case he didn’t cave on anything.
But we can’t let the truth get in the way of a good narrative.
I don’t trust either of them.
But it hardly matters - the method for getting rid of the filibuster would be the same as it is using parliamentary procedure to change the rules - the “nuclear” option. No formal “deal” would change that...as the filibuster is already part of established Senate rules.
And that's where things stand: Mitch McConnell is so anxious to retain the vestiges of power in the Senate that he's willing to take the risk and allow a Senate vote on rules for the new session and rely on the word of two Democrats that they will not vote to abandon a 215-year-old rule that has long protected minority party rights and that is the only thing standing between America as she was and America as she will be under total Democrat control without the brakes of our Constitution and its Bill of Rights.
As usual the AmericanThinker is spin and narrative - not fact and truth.
McConnell wanted an assurance from Schumer they would not use the nuclear option to change the Senate rules by parliamentary procedure. Schumer would make no such assurance, but two other Democrats did, which would be sufficient to block it.
The assurance would only be that, however, as the Senate rules already establish filibuster. This power sharing agreement was not changing that rule. In either case, the deal would only be as good as their word.
So McConnell got the deal he wanted and then dropped the objection. Those saying he “caved” are either clueless or dishonest.
Yes - that’s what the article says - and it is embarrassingly stupid.

Yes, they would. But with McConnell’s agreement with Sinema and Manchin change to the filibuster rules will not be an approved part of the Senate Rules.
Protecting the turtle is always tough, but here goes.
He had no choice. They don't need the turtle's agreement on anything.
With 50 votes plus one, they can just change the senate rules and the turtle can go sit in the corner.
He was in a no win situation and he knows that because the demonRATs have the press in their pocket, they will get cover for any move they make.
He is doing the best he can {or that anyone can}.
Mitch gave a speech, it is on The Hill youtube channel. He very precisely stated he was against ending the filibuster. The date on the video is today’s date.
I thought the article did not make sense. My post was a reply to House Atreides’s question.
“promise of democrats”
Is that some form of oxymoron?
Depends on which meaning of "promise" is intended.
If it means "assurance" they make promises all the time, so it's a characteristic, not an oxymoron. If it means "the quality of future excellence" (as in "The young Capablanca showed great promise as a chess player" then yes, that is an oxymoron.
Unless they lied. In that case I don't see how Mitch could stop them anyway.
Mitt Romney and Lisa Murkowski will gladly make up those lost votes.
Brutus is still using his knife...
Now the mask is off—The Uniparty will do all they can to keep the Tyranny in Power forever. I said we need new Party—Now I and starting to think we need a new country—The dissolution wagon is getting ready to roll—I fear.
