You’re right about Teddy Roosevelt and the Bull Moose party. A third party is a losing proposition unless you get massive support from both parties. As much as I hate the current Republican party, it’s better to take it over from within. The numbers just don’t work otherwise. If you have a district where it’s about 50-50 Republicans and Democrats, even if 80% of the Republicans join the Patriot party, the Patriot candidate won’t win.
There’s no practical way to cleanse it.

There are democrats who can’t bring themselves to vote republican, but they love Trump. They will vote for Trump if he’s not republican.

It’s not possible to take it over from within because it is so corrupt and tied to the DC swamp. Why else do you think they crapped all over Trump during the election? Trump was the best thing that happened to the GOP in decades, he got lots of new ones elected and older ones reelected. It actually made the repubs popular again only to be shit on by the GOPe.
You will never get rid of McCain’s, Ryan’s, Romney’s and the likes.
A bigger factor is that the GOP committed massive suicide Jan 6th. I do not ever plan on voting for a republican again at the fed level.

You’re absolutely right. And, IMHO, we’re well on our way to a MAGA takeover of the Republican Party. A recent example of this was in Arizona with Kelli Ward’s election as Arizona GOP leader and condemnation of Cindy McCain and RINO Governor Ducey.
I was trying to find out how many dems voted for Trump. Couldnt find anything. That would be significant because it would subtract from the Dem total.
The corruption is so ingrained and pervasive in the republican't party that he's better off starting his own party.
