Isn't it great that the oil from Canada will now be moved by trains and trucks?
American Thinker ^ | 01/23/2021 | Jack Hellner

Posted on 01/23/2021 9:50:35 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Now that the Keystone XL pipeline is cancelled by President Joe Biden, the world is supposedly greener.

Really? Fact is, it's the opposite. Instead of getting more environmentally friendly, the carbon footprint from that oil will be increased substantially because it will be shipped by truck and trains above ground, instead of through underground pipe. It is also much less safe and efficient: Shipping by trucks and trains means more accidents -- and an increased human cost. What sheer brilliance! I thought all of Biden’s decisions were going to be based on facts and science.

I read the other day in the WSJ, that demand for ships that specialize in building and servicing wind farms is growing. What is the carbon footprint of these ships that will be powered by oil? The oil will clearly have to come from sources other than the U.S. -- such as Russia or Iran since we are eventually going to stop producing oil over here if Biden has his way, intentionally destroying millions of jobs.

How will Biden maintain the current Trump vaccination level of one million per day without using planes, trucks, cars, and trains powered by oil? I hope the Biden administration calculates the carbon footprint of all this since that is their main concern.

But truth? Not so much. Here's another illustration: It is phenomenal that so many COVID vaccines were developed in less than a year and around 40 million vaccines have been distributed, since CNN and the Biden administration say that the Trump administration had no plan. After all, we have been told that these sources always tell the truth. To update this a bit, it turns out Biden now seems to be saying he's the one with no plan. So much for truth.

Screw the pipelines, trucks and trains, we should start refining the oil near the border, if you all want some, come and get it, probably a big market for relatively cheap gasoline (and heating oil) in the western and central states and eliminate the middleman (Texas) altogether.

Nothing against Texas, but why should they be involved in the supply/demand equation? Because they already have refineries, I suppose. Alberta refineries would change a lot of the Canadian political questions to Alberta’s favor. Truck transport of refined gasoline is relatively safe and the technology already exists, would need to be expanded probably.

I’ve suggested this to the Alberta government, they should by now see the writing on the wall as far as pipelines are concerned (I am not personally anti-pipeline but my views won’t matter much).

And the issue of rescinding a duly issued permit for purely political reasons now arises like never before. Imagine a builder that must now plan for political influence like this in his projects.

The plan used to be something like: design the project ($500K), get the permits ($500K), get the materials and labor ($10M), build the project($20M), get the sign off and we are done. And society has a new roadway, or whatever, for $31M.

Now a new step is added to the plan. Evaluate the risk of a political decision to rescind a critical permit after spending lots of money already on the project. You could end up with the following. Design the project ($500K), get the permits ($500K), get the materials and labor($10M), spend $15M building the project, have the critical permit rescinded, go to court and fight the decision ($2M), lose in court, halt work on the project, lay off the workers and leave a half finished project. Cost to the taxpayers: $28M. What did they get for it? Nothing useful.

Alternatively, the contractor hopefuls take a look at the risk, decide it is too great and decline to bid.

Democrats see cute, little fuzzy animals and their brains go out the window.

Is there a money trail to Joe Biden in all this from trucking and railroad interests?

That’s the real story of real politics.

“Saving The Planet” from fossil fuels is window dressing.

Don't confuse the dummy with facts !
He couldn't find the vaccination level , since it wasn't listed on his 'large print cue cards'; remember, for example, "Salute the Marines"..
His administration is based on facts (?), .. not truth (?)
It's supposed to be all about SCIENCE , still waiting for the next edition of science digest, which is for dummies !

Buy shares of Berkshire Hathaway B shares. A shares are a bit pricey.

What; you don’t want to make a buck from the BS that’s going down? You’d rather just take the punishment?

It will also be more expensive and the costs will be passed directly to you and I for all of it. Thanks for the misery, Biden.

Because leftists haven’t allowed new refineries for a very long time and it certainly won’t happen now.

The amount of jobs in a trucking ecosystem is large.
————————
The pay in the trucking industry is stuck decades behind.

$25/hr (50¢ a mile) is probably the most you can expect with the mega carriers with a decade of experience. Sure there are dome exceptions, but why do you think CR England, Prime, Swift, Knight, Western Express and others can’t keep drivers? A lot of them start at 26¢ to 30¢ a mile. 7 day, 70 hour driving and 98-hour DOT duty work week isn’t popular with most. And with the new DOT changes, a driver might not get 10 hours off in a row.

I read up on Canada’s government structure once. While Ottawa is bicameral, all the provincial governments went unicameral some time ago, meaning a simple, slim majority in the one house on any issue is enough to screw over a portion of the population (see Nebraska, USA).

But fortunately, that works in your favor, since you only need the one majority vote — as I see it* — for refineries, which will actually benefit the whole of Alberta one way or another, assuming Ottawa allows them.

*Of course, I may be missing something about parliamentary procedures in Alberta.

Yes all correct, Alberta has just the legislature, and for that matter, our federal government is about as close to being unicameral as possible, our Senate is considered a bit of an honorarium and their role traditionally has been to improve rather than reject legislation coming to them. I can’t recall an instance in my rather lengthy political interest where the Canadian senate rejected legislation sent up to them. I can recall a couple of instances where their proposed amendments were unwelcome to the House of Communists (as we call them).

The main political question with a pro-development conservative provincial government in Alberta is selling the concept of refining at home base. They have been strongly tied to pipelines all along. British Columbia and Canadian first nations have stalled one important pipeline project (to the west coast for export) while the Democrats in the U.S. have now nixed the Keystone, and a trans-Canada project went nowhere too. So they are 0 for 3 on pipelines, rather than continuing the apparent lost cause, I would suggest they make some extra cash for their province by selling the finished product.

There is no shortage of oil in the ground, but it has gained a reputation (fairly or unfairly) as being “dirty oil” compared to other sources, takes more effort to refine in other words. I can’t see much opposition in Alberta to oil refineries and it’s not a real question for the federal government which (despite their ideology) never opposed Keystone (or the B.C. project I mentioned).

“Watching the Tucker Carlson interview of former Biden associate Bobulinski right now. None of this is rocket science. Nothing associated with the name Biden involves rocket science. When you expose twits like Hunter, Joe and Jim to trillions of dollars of other people’s money, this is what you get. Ayn Rand called it the “aristocracy of pull”. Without pull, the whole sorry Biden family would be NOTHING.”

Who owns the R.R.
Who owns trucking?
Pipelines are safer and in the long run cheaper But if the dems make good money from trucking interests then there you have the reason pipelines are bad.
