The devastating fall and winter wave of coronavirus infections that is causing so much misery across the U.S. appears to have finally peaked, according to several researchers who are closely tracking the virus.
While another surge remains possible, especially with new, more infectious variants on the horizon, the number of new daily infections in the current wave appears to have hit a high in the past week or two and has been steadily declining in most states since, the researchers say.
"Yes, we have peaked in terms of cases," says Ali Mokdad, who has been tracking the pandemic at the University of Washington's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. "We are coming down, slowly. This is very good news — very good news."
And while hospitals in some places are still being overwhelmed, the overall number of hospitalized patients also appears to have reached a peak and begun to decline slightly. It's down from a peak of over 132,000 patients on Jan. 6 to 122,700 as of Wednesday.
Declines in daily deaths could soon follow, experts say.
"Based on current trends, the worst appears to be over," says Caitlin Rivers, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. "We are headed to a better place."

Based on many years of mortality statistics the winter peak in deaths is around the second week of February. Covid seems to be just another opportunistic infection that works more effectively in winter. It is deadlier than the usual flu and whatever else promotes pneumonias or otherwise stresses already weak persons, but it seems to be affected by the same environmental conditions.
Even without vaccines this will decline to next to nothing by late spring. And as in Europe last year it will almost disappear through summer. Since it is globally endemic by now it will pop up again whenever conditions are favorable.

Good Grief. And the propaganda machine is in full throttle. Problem is the 50% morons we have in this country who were scared to death of this fake pandemic will actually believe Biden is responsible for curing it one day after being in office. Since Covid is going away so fast, and now reading that the positive test results were actually inaccurate, therefore most causes of deaths were reported incorrectly (which we knew from the beginning) then I see no need to take a hoax vaccine for a hoax pandemic.
The announcement of COVID being past peak was reported on the day after Biden was sworn in.
But the actual peak was 10 days ago, on January 11th, ten days ago, and squarely under Trump's watch.

What we saw was the Thanksgiving peak, about a week after Thanksgiving, then the Christmas peak (higher) about four weeks later, then the New Year’s peak, the highest one, a week after the Christmas peak. Those were so high that the 7-day running total of new cases can only go down after that.
