Pelosi on whether impeachment undercuts unity: "No, I'm not worried about that"

CNN’s Manu Raju asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi if pursuing impeachment against former President Trump at the start of the new Congress would undermine efforts to create unity with colleagues from across the aisle.

“No, I’m not worried about that,” Pelosi said during her weekly news conference.

“The fact is, the President of the United States committed an act of incitement of insurrection. I don't think it's very unifying to say, oh, let's just forget it and move on. That's not how you unify," she continued.

When Pelosi said, “just because he is now gone,” she paused to say “thank God” before continuing to add, “you don't say to a president do whatever you want in the last months of your administration, you're going to get a get out of jail card free.”

because she knows she’ll be humiliated AGAIN in a senate trial.”

I don’t think so. I think they will get the votes, and I think McConnell will ensure same.

Hopefully I’m wrong.

I can't figure out what your response has anything to do with the lie that the Rats were/are scared, afraid, humiliated and desperate.

If anyone still believes in the 'reality' that the Rats are, or ever were, scared, afraid, humiliated and desperate, I can't help them. Nobody can.

My observation was that you sound like you are angry at someone on FR for thinking that or taking you to task for your contrary view.

I think it was not unreasonable to take that stance, barring illegality. You may be right that the Left was planning this level of open illegality for four years, and perhaps that is true, because they were certainly engaged in it at a variety of other levels.

I think it was only after they had “their candidate” and saw the reception by by the electorate that they decided to go all out and openly break the law, and only because at that point, they realized they had nothing to lose.

No unity if impeachment goes forward.

And I think FR would be a healthy place to visit if misconstruing simple statements ended, and both disinformation and gaslighting stopped.

A tall order.

A tall order indeed.

Too many people like to snark at people here, but when someone calls them on it, they say they meant nothing of the sort.

I’d like to see that end too.

Like you, I prefer a more straight up no BS dialogue.

Pure evil these Dems are, and Mitch is helping them? Sheesh, and people are afraid a third party will make things worse?

After rereading your responses in this short dialogue, all of which that had nothing to do with my original post or responses, I think you sell yourself short.

What in the hell do they have to do with the lies, disinformation and gaslighting that goes on FR?

I don't think we need to go at each other on this, so I'll keep the talk above the table. I was taking issue with the tone of your post. Perhaps I misunderstood you. Let me explain my interpretation:

You wrote: "...The smart people on FR were going on for months about how the Rats were/are scared, afraid, humiliated and desperate..."

It is pretty apparent from that statement you don't think those people were "smart", and that they were going on for months (otherwise being hysterical) because they weren't smart enough to see the plain (to you) truth, that the Left was never in disarray, that they had a plan all along, and the smart people (who you really think were not "smart") were intentionally misleading people with "misinformation" and "gaslighting".

The two points I make are based on my interpretation of your post. If I am wrong, and you really weren't calling these people dumb and hysterical, I can easily admit to misinterpreting your post. And I don't think it was obvious that the Left "had this covered" for a long time.

What I have seen a lot of is people expressing opinions based on their available input, which for a lot of people meant seeing a dynamic guy in front of tens of thousands of people, sometimes different venues on the same day, and making a comparison to a guy who couldn't put together a sentence, seemed like a mentally feeble geriatric patient, whos rallies consisted of tens of people. If the situation were reversed, wouldn't WE have been in disarray? Conservatives tend to be more factually based, and if Trump had mumbled in an address to an audience "Trunalimunumprzure" I don't think we would have been saying Trump was going to kick Biden's butt, we would have been panicking. So I don't think it was a leap to think the Left would be quite anxious about such a feeble candidate.

Also, I know what disinformation and gaslighting are. The key point I make is both of those concepts are intentional and are both intended to cause harm, discord, or discomfort.

Disinformation is pretty straightforward. Is classifying someone's expression of an opinion based on observations of a candidate's behavior as "disinformation" a correct thing to do? That opinion might be wrong, but being wrong with an opinion isn't disinformation. Knowing the truth and presenting something known to be false with the DELIBERATE intention of misleading people is "disinformation".

As for "gaslighting", intentionally giving people false information in a specific way to make them feel that they are perceiving things incorrectly (fully knowing all the while as you tell them they are wrong that they are indeed perceiving things correctly) and done with the intention to deliberately cause psychological pain, discomfort, or confusion-THAT is gaslighting.

I see far more wrong opinions on here, and for my part, would come out and tell them they are wrong, rather than accuse them of gaslighting or misinformation, both of which are far less common in my opinion.

But even if there is a “conviction”, the Supreme Court will throw it out because the trial of an ex-POTUS is unconstitutional.

The filthy Rats in the Senate can go through their exercise in hate and vengeance, and in the end the “conviction” will be thrown out. ......So if Trump wants to run for office again, he can.

I understand your skepticism, but Constitutional experts such as Dershowitz and Turley—both Democrats—have adamantly said that impeachment and removal are for a SITTING PRESIDENT, NOT an ex-President. The wording in the Constitution is explicit and clear. They’ve been right about a lot of things re impeachment, and I have confidence in their interpretation of the Constitution.
