Keep those two quotes in mind.
Joe Biden assumes the presidency promising to base his decisions on science. He has even elevated a science adviser position to the cabinet, a first in American history. As someone who spent several years working at NASA, I strongly support science being considered in major presidential decisions. Science ought not be political. If Biden is serious about prioritizing science, one of his first calls should be to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose state has remained largely open during the pandemic yet is outperforming similar states.
Scientists don’t always agree with one another, any more than the rest of us do. Science isn’t some priesthood of the infallible anointed. Science is about investigating, it’s about marshaling facts and context, and it’s very often about challenging orthodoxies, whatever they may be. Decision makers should consult science, but one branch of science alone is usually insufficient to provide the full range of information needed to make decisions.
Biden’s first presidential decision strongly suggests he’s not actually basing his acts on science. Biden is promising, as his first act, to use an executive order to bypass Congress and cancel the long-delayed Keystone XL Pipeline.
That pipeline would move about 800,000 barrels of oil per day from Alberta, Canada, where it’s produced, to refineries in Texas. That’s a lot of oil. The United States produces about 11 to 12 million barrels of oil per day. 800,000 barrels is a significant portion.

Science is not that. Far from it. It is an open (i.e., confirm-able by others) process of seeking truth based on verifiable, empirical evidence and logic. It can be and is often ruthless and totally amoral in its progression. And those who practice it, and those who say they will "follow" must be prepared to stand alone against an otherwise opposing tide, until the truth is found out. If you are proved wrong, you have to own up to it. If you are correct, you have to be prepared to take the heat until your position is shown to be correct. Not many have the intellectual courage to do that, and I'm guessing their ranks among the political class are pretty thin.

Will start hearing that science is now saying shut downs don’t help. So biden will start saying very soon that we are opening everything up. Already saying in NY that they can’t stay shut down anymore. This will happen very soon. He will leave taxes alone for a while, send everyone 2000 bucks or 1400, open everything back up cause science says it’s time BUT he will insist everyone wears a mask. The vaccine will be rolling out faster and faster so he will get credit for that..Once everything opens back up our economy will go up quickly so his first year will make it look like the biggest growth and recovery ever. This guy is going to get credit for things Trump did and opening up the way he had been telling states. And blaming Trump for everything. I live in Florida and the economy is doing ok. Our gov has done a pretty good job.

guided by science? is that why he’s appointing a transgender as assistant secretary to health and human services? Is that why he supports abortion at any point in pregnancy? Is that why he supports the idea of more than 2 genders? Give me a freakin’ break - he is the ultimate science denier.
That may have been Obama's nominal reason for blocking the Keystone pipeline, but Biden's reason is simpler: restore the Obama legacy.
If Obama wanted it and Trump overturned it, Biden will overturn the overturn just because Trump overturned it, regardless of its positive impact on the American economy and energy self-sufficiency.
