Man Arrested Near Capitol With Gun, 500 Rounds of Ammunition

A Virginia man was arrested Friday when he tried to enter a restricted area near the U.S. Capitol with unauthorized credentials, a loaded handgun, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition, according to police.

Wesley Allen Beeler of Front Royal, Virginia, was stopped by U.S. Capitol Police at about 6:30 p.m. Friday, according to a police report. He had driven up a security checkpoint at the intersection of E Street and North Capitol Street, about a half-mile from the Capitol building.

The arrest came at a time of high alert in Washington as it prepares for Wednesday’s inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden. Barriers have been erected, streets closed, and thousands of police and National Guardsmen deployed after supporters of President Donald Trump overran the Capitol on Jan. 6, when lawmakers were meeting to officially recognize Biden’s win.

While one officer was checking Beeler’s credentials, another noticed that he had several “firearm related decals” on the rear windshield of his Ford F-150 pickup truck, according to a police affidavit filed in District of Columbia Superior Court on Saturday. One of the decals said “Assault Life” and had a picture of a rifle; a second decal said “If they come for your guns, Give ‘Em your bullets first.”

The officers asked Beeler, 31, if he was carrying any weapons, and he said he had a Glock pistol under the center armrest of his truck, according to the court documents. The police handcuffed Beeler and found the Glock 9mm pistol -- with a loaded 17-round high capacity magazine -- that had a bullet loaded into its firing chamber and the safety off.

I realize the author is trying to paint this guy as someone two seconds away from killing dozens. The reality of loose ammunition is it’s not useful once the action starts. It takes too long a load a magazine.

Virginia man arrested at DC checkpoint says it was an 'honest mistake'

BY SARAH POLUS - 01/16/21 08:28 PM EST

The Virginia man who was arrested Friday at a restricted checkpoint near the Capitol with what police say was an unregistered firearm and ammunition said Saturday the situation was an "honest mistake," according to The Washington Post. Wesley Allen Beeler was arrested on five charges, and released from Capitol Police custody following the incident.

During an interview with, the Post Beeler said that he's a contractor for a private securities company MVP Protective Services, and was given the credentials he showed police at the checkpoint, located half a mile from the Capitol, by his employer.

MVP Protective Services could not be immediately reached for comment by The Hill.

Beeler alleged he was running late for work and mistakenly pulled up to the restricted area as a result of getting lost on unfamiliar roads.

"I pulled up to a checkpoint after getting lost in D.C. because I’m a country boy," he told the Post. "I showed them the inauguration badge that was given to me."

Authorities said they found a loaded Glock 9MM pistol, 509 rounds of ammunition, a 17-round Glock magazine and 21 12-gauge shotgun shells when they searched Beeler's truck during the incident, according to a police report.

Beeler claims that he forgot he had the Glock pistol and ammunition in his truck, and that he is authorized to legally carry the weapon in his home state of Virginia.

When asked by police if he had any weapons on him, he admitted to having the pistol. He reportedly denied having the 500 rounds of ammunition, however.

"It was just me forgetting to take it out of my truck before I left for work," he said, according to the Post. "I don’t know what the D.C. laws are. It still comes back on me, but I’m not a criminal."

Beeler was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possessing an unregistered firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, according to court documents.

His arrest comes as Washington gears up for President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration on Jan. 20. Tensions have run high in the nation's capital following the mob that attacked the Capitol building last week.

Following the riots, members of the National Guard were deployed to the building, and some 25,000 National Guard troops are expected to be in D.C. for Biden's inauguration.

"I don’t know what the D.C. laws are.”

As a concealed carry holder, I always make sure I know the laws of any jurisdiction I’m going to. There are very convenient apps for that, or if you’re a member of USCCA, you can easily look it up.

He may have said that for convenience or legal purposes, but he should know what he’s heading into when carrying.

I am constantly amazed at these snowflakes

They consider 500 rounds of ammo to be excessive.

Uhh...ok

“A Glock pistol with the “safety” off?”

Obviously not the case. I’m thinking that this may be another false flag with someone on the inside letting saying this, to let our side know what’s going on.

Sadly, that’s about all we have to communicate with now...coded phrases.
