Democrats' Main Impeachment Goal: To Keep Trump from Running for Office Ever Again

President Donald J. Trump officially became the first US president to be impeached twice by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, paving the way for a Senate trial that could come after his term ends.

Lawmakers who have been in favor of impeaching Trump just days before he leaves the White House argue the goal is not just to remove him from office, but also to prevent him from ever becoming president again.

"He must go," argued House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday. "He is a clear and present danger to the nation that we all love."

The single article of impeachment charges President Trump with engaging "in high crimes and misdemeanors by inciting violence against the government of the United States."

"We know we experienced the insurrection that violated the sanctity of the people's Capitol, and attempted to overturn the duly recorded will of the American people. And we know that the President of the United States incited this insurrection, this armed rebellion against our common country," Pelosi claimed.

The impeachment vote took place as National Guard troops protected the Capitol and the House Chamber.

Ten Republicans joined every House Democrat voting in favor of impeachment, while the majority of House Republicans argued impeaching Trump would only add fuel to the fire.

"A vote to impeach would further divide this nation," said House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). "A vote to impeach will further fan the flames of partisan division."

McCarthy believes the president should have been censured for his role in the Capitol attack, not impeached. "The president bears responsibility for Wednesday's attack on Congress by mob rioters," continued McCarthy. "He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding."

Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace (R-SC) says both sides share in the blame for the unrest around the country.

"Republicans and Democrats need to acknowledge this is not the first day of violence we've seen. We've seen violence across our country for the last nine months," said Mace. "And we need to recognize, number one our words have consequences, that there is violence on both sides of the aisle, we've contributed to it, we need to take responsibility for our words and our actions, we need to acknowledge there is a problem, take responsibility for it and stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution."

Following the historic vote on impeachment, Trump issued a video calling for no violence, vandalism, or lawbreaking as he prepares to leave office.

"Now, I am asking everyone who has ever believed in our agenda, to be thinking of ways to ease tensions, calm tempers, and help to promote peace in our country," said Trump in the video.

President-elect Joe Biden released a statement saying he hopes that "Senate leadership will find a way to deal with their constitutional responsibilities on impeachment while also working on the other urgent business of this nation."

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will not reconvene the Senate until January 19th, ensuring a Senate impeachment trial would not begin until the first weeks of Biden's presidency.

In two very short years, we begin another election campaign cycle for president. I pray that Trump sucks the oxygen out of whichever dem holds the office at that time.

I think the Dems will do that all on their own, Trump will just clean up.

It is funny how you attribute this deep state agenda to 0Bummer when in truth it goes much further back and 0bummer is nothing more than a chess piece in the game. But hey keep thinking like you do. Here let me help you out, to get rid of the Deep state the country will have to go back to the Gold Standard that backs the USD. Trump wants that. Now look at other Presidents who wanted that and how many of them were killed in office? Dig a little deeper and you will have all the info you need. By the way, YEB wanted the status quo with the USD. Why? Dig deeper. Why did Trump put who he did on the Fed Board? What did they believe? Deep state is all about money for them. What happens when you take the USD back to the gold standard? How many US Treasury banks do we have? How many Federal Banks have their been? What happened in 1931? And the ringer...in this regard what did JFK want to do?

Now you know why it goes further back than 0Bummer.

Impeaching a president after his term ends is stupid.
Does this mean that Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Monroe, Jackson, Tyler, Polk & Taylor will all be impeached as slave owners?

You make a good point, but if the nominee is someone else they’ll link that person to Trump through the maid of the neighbor of the nominee’s third cousin’s doctor’s lawyer. Therefore we must not vote for this clear danger to the republic.

Of course they can do that anyway but it’s more fun to pile on.

Here is something else for you to consider. Before the Great Depression of the Roaring 20’s, how many depressions did the USA have and what was their causes? Or rather who was it that caused it?

An Impeachment a day will not keep Trump away

Let’s assume the Democrats’ basic premise is true, i.e. that Trump lost fair and square. Trump’s loss wasn’t terrible - a couple of hundred thousand votes short in the swing states that decide the White House race. This is in the face of two outlier events - a mass casualty pandemic and the resultant economic depression representing the worst downturn since the Great Depression.

The Democrats expected a complete sweep of the states, both at the White House and Congressional levels. FDR got a 413 electoral vote victory margin. Biden’s was 74. The 1932 House elections gave the Democrats got a 196-seat margin, vs the ~12-seat margin they got in 2020. The 1932 Senate elections moved the Democrats to a 22-seat margin, vs the 1-seat margin (thanks to the VP tie breaker vote) they just got after the 2021 GA runoffs. This was a blue wave a toddler could safely paddle in, not a tsunami.

That’s why they’re trying to prevent Trump from running again. He’s no Herbert Hoover, whose political career was over the day the results came in. The Dems aren’t afraid Trump will get the 2024 GOP nomination and lose in the general. They’re worried that one hiccup or other before 2024 will send Trump back to the White House with commanding GOP majorities, but this time cleansed of the never-Trumpers who gave him so much trouble in his first term.

If Trump intends to run again, the interval from now until presidential season should involve the installation of Republicans who support the Trump agenda in the midterms, and the removal of those who don’t. Bannon’s quest to populate elected offices with Trump supporters needs to resume, so that when Trump re-enters the White House, his agenda is ready to go from Day 1.

"Just" impeachment? No, it can not prevent anyone from becoming President again.

Being convicted in the Senate, yes. That would prohibit anyone from becoming President again. They could, however, still "run" for President. They just couldn't "be" President again.

Article I, Section 3

Judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States: but the party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to indictment, trial, judgment and punishment, according to law.

The impeachment show had two objectives.

1st, was to hope/pressure the senate to take up the trial in the hopes of convicting him...thus preventing him from holding the office again.

2nd, if that didn't work...it was to place the label on him of being the only President in history to have been impeached twice.

Pelosi “This president is impeached for life, regardless of any gamesmanship on the part of Mitch McConnell,” the California Representative said, firming up Rep. Adam Schiff’s suggestion from a month ago that a failed Senate trial, by its very nature of existing, would not be a failure. “He will be impeached forever,” - Jan 2020.

Another consideration for you:

What was the GREENBACK? Why did Lincoln issue them? Why was Lincoln really killed and what happened to the GREENBACK after Lincoln was killed and Grant sworn in? And you want to continue think the Deep STate is all about 0bummer? Think again. Go back further in American history. Yes the so-called deep state goes back even further than the Civil War of 1861. When you connect the dots then you will be “enlightened” and see that this has nothing to do with 0Bummer or even Trump as they are just names for the rally cry like the cry of the Alamo. Trump is the current rally cry for those on the left to focus on to get back into power as was 0Bummer was to the right to get Trump elected. Those are just names. When people start to look past the name and see the actions behind the proverbial curtain then will people be enlightened. The wars on -isms are only a way to get people distracted. The USA is no more a racist country than is it a classist country. You want war between classes look over to India’s caste system. You want racism look to Sudan where they are still selling slaves. You want war on capitalism look to the Central banks. Russia and China has nothing to with this. What those two do are for their nation’s survival and part world domination. However even behind those two countries are the mysteries that people call conspiracy theories that people make fun of. But hey keep thinking its all about 0Bummer and his policies. Who is behind 0Bummer? And you thought 0Bummer was the smart one!!

You are correct, corruption has been around longer than we can imagine. That is a huge contributor in the failing of Rome. There are and always be those who want personal benefit and their personal agenda. There are and always be those who want their personal benefit agenda met... we cannot deny that.

Then add in the foisting of obama on America.

Obama was a follower of islam and marxism and was polished for his role in the final solution for America.... the death of America.

That is why I typically reference Carlos the jackal.... who openly stated the only way you could bring down the west was through an alliance between islam and marxism.

Combined corruption with Obama is enough to bring down the west.

Trump is the one man who stood to save America from these invasive forces.

When he said he was going to drain the swamp?

He scared EVERYONE on both sides of the aisle.

Any future success for Trump in 2024, or (R)'s in 2022 at the federal level, is completely dependent on the (D)'s and whether they go for the jugular and completely transform our country...or not.

Recent behavior (massive election fraud, more recent cancel culture, etc.) suggests they will.

The second goal is to tie him up so he can’t release documents on their criminal corruption or pardon anyone who might have information about their abuse of power.

If impeached and convicted, he can be disqualified from holding any office in the United States government.

I believe if the Senate carries out Phase 2 and actually votes to remove him, the statute indicates that he can never hold a government post again

Not exactly.

When the Senate convicts someone on an impeachment (essentially, an indictment) from the House, they have two and only two punishment options. One of the two applies only to a currently serving President, Vice President or any other civil officer of the United States, and that is removal from office.

The other, which is "disqualification from any office of trust or profit under the United States" can be applied to anyone.

Conviction for the purposes of either punishment requires 67 votes in the Senate, but imposition of disqualification as a punishment requires only 51.

Can a president (any president, Trump, Biden, or anyone else) simply issue a pardon anyway, whether or not the recipient wants it?

Doesn’t a conviction take 3/4 vote in the Senate?

Disqualifictaion is a separate punishment from removal.

Alcee Hastings was impeached and convicted, and removed from his Federal judgeship for bribery, but the punishment of disqualification was not imposed by Senate and Hastings sits in the House of Representatives to this very day, having been sent there repeatedly by the people of CD FL- 20.

I don’t think this is the main purpose at all. Their theme is strictly about Trump creating turmoil because he was lying about the election being stolen, that he was not accepting Biden as a duly elected POTUS, thus not conceding.

They will not rest until we are all on our knees and agree that Biden didn’t steal the election. That he is our legitimate President. Without that Biden and the DEMS are screwed and they know it.

Again you are focused solely, to much, on one man. Why was JFK truly assassinated? This isn’t about the corruption of Rome! The Roman empire is no more. Why? You are being distracted. It has nothing to do with Islime and 0Bummer being mooslime. You are still focused on the singularity not the actions that are going on the in the background and I am not talking about the congress critters. You have to look much further back, it is why they call it the deep state because you have to look really deep behind a lot of distractions. Who wanted the death of the Roman Empire?

Again, look deeper and Islime, congress critters and names are just distractions. Look behind the reasons and actions of those Presidents who were assassinated. Why was Trump not assassinated? Why has Pehosi gone the impeachment route instead? When you find this out and have done research rather than conjecture you will be enlightened.
