McConnell is running the Senate until after Biden is sworn in. Any impeachment trial would take place after Trump leaves office. Dershowitz opines that a private citizen can not be tried. Impeachment and conviction is only a remedy for a sitting President. I trust Dershowitz’s opinion on the constitutionality of such an action.
