Chief Steven Sund of the Capitol Police is stepping down following Wednesday's debacle at the nation's Capitol. Sund's resignation is effective January 16.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle called on Sund to resign after a large crowd of Trump supporters gathered in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday and a contingent of demonstrators breached the U.S. Capitol. Congressional offices were ransacked and rioters made their way onto the House floor.

Officers are "frustrated and demoralized" with how a lack of leadership undermined the response to the mob, according to a statement from Gus Papathanasiou, the union chairman. Papathanasiou laid the blame on a failure and planning while praising officers for their work.
"We prioritized lives over property, leading people to safety," the statement said. "Not one Member of Congress or their staff was injured. Our officers did their jobs. Our leadership did not. Our Law Enforcement partners that assisted us were remarkable.”
The statement fell just short of calling for the force's chief, Steven Sund, to resign. Sund commended officers earlier Thursday, calling their actions "heroic" and slammed the chaos that erupted as "criminal riotous behavior."
The Associated Press reported that Capitol Police turned down an offer from the Pentagon to receive help from the National Guard in preparation for the planned event. Despite heightened tensions over a contentious election and Antifa's history of counterprotests, the Capitol Police planned only for a free speech demonstration.
Back in June, Democrats and the media bashed law enforcement over their response to angry rioters who gathered outside the White House and set fire to historic St. John’s Episcopal Church. The AP reports that officials were determined to avoid any appearance of the federal government deploying active duty or National Guard troops against Americans following the White House incident. But the media's recognition of violence at left-wing events versus right-wing events is night and day.
As protesters stormed the Capitol on Wednesday, one Trump supporter was shot and killed by Capitol Police. A Utah man known for organizing violent Antifa and BLM protests was spotted standing near the gunned down woman. Footage also shows Trump supporters attempting to stop members in the crowd from breaking into the Capitol.
Well this chief planned for a free speech protest which is true but he didn’t plan for antifa to hijack the protest. If any commie blames Trump for all this show them this video. This cop who killed her had no immediate jeopardy. You don’t fire into a crowd you are responsible for each round when it leaves the weapon. The officer subject factors and again the elements of Jeopardy were not there. Even the use of force matrix did not escalate that high to kill someone. I hope we find out his name.
Did anyone else see this. How could they have gotten roof access to take control of this equipment if they weren’t helped. This was shown on Fox News sometime before 7:30>>> I can’t answer specifics but remember the whole place was scaffolded due to the inauguration. There might be some construction scaffolding that made it easier to get acce3ss to some normally inaccessible places.
The lawsuit will be massive for a wrongful death. Err I mean murder here.

The deep state showed its incompetence in matters of intelligence and security.
“What about the murdering cop. Has he been fired?”
********************************************
Has SHE been fired yet?
Props to the “good at photo analysis” FReeper who pointed out the clues to the murderer’s likely sex. Just saw his/her comment earlier tonight and believe he may be on to something.
I don’t see how this man should be blamed. He was expecting a repeat of the Tea Party demonstrations. People who don’t trespass or destroy stuff, chant slogans at best and pick up after themselves at the end of their demonstration.
“What about the murdering cop.
Has he/she/it been fired?”
it does look like some sort of window-washing rig- you can see the ropes. One guy is shown on a ledge in the below link, looks like he’s steadying the platform while they switch flags.
As a result of his lack of situational awareness, this happened - which in any book is unacceptable:
More importantly, all of this disrupted the process going on in the House and Senate, that Trump spent considerable speech time covering, and turned an offensive Congressional debate into an unforced demand for 'camaraderie' within congressional ranks and turned forceful debaters into quivering, guilt-ridden apologists 'in it together'.

For those who, thanks to our education mafia, don’t even know what the NAZIs used the Reichstag fire as an excuse for.
Yep. The whole thing was an elaborate setup.
The dumbarse has been allowing antifa and blm to terrorize DC for months. He didnt expect it to be people he didnt like.
Three days before supporters of President Donald Trump rioted at the Capitol, the Pentagon asked the U.S Capitol Police if it needed National Guard manpower. And as the mob descended on the building Wednesday, Justice Department leaders reached out to offer up FBI agents. The police turned them down both times, according to senior defense officials and two people familiar with the matter.
Viral video appears to show a US Capitol Police Officer waving protesters past barricade at complex Wednesday.

I was one who had history courses through middle school, high school, and college.
none of 'em do dick !
I suspect he's been in over his head for years, was there more as part of the woodwork, could have retired years ago with a fat pension, and just doesn't want to deal with the inevitable crap that's coming their way.
As for those who blame him for the incompetence of the Capitol Police rank and file, Jon Taffer from 'Bar Rescue' correctly calls such positions "Stupidvisors" because they don't have the authority to supervise. Capitol Police, like many departments, are forced to hire those who are marginal at best.
