If the Republicans hold 50 seats, wouldn’t nominally independent Angus King or a centrist Democrat like Joe Manchin have a lot of power in the choice of new leaders? Couldn’t they threaten to be like Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords in 2001 and bolt the party if they felt were too extremist on any issue or appointee?

I don’t like it, but watch and see. Watch and see.

He won’t have to do a thing after Schumer changes the Senate rules to have simple majority votes for cloture and everything else. The Republican senate minority will be just as efficacious if they stay at home and while away the hours reading novels on the porch.

After the Adam Schiff model is deployed they’ll be lucky if the Democrats still let them speak in debates or have committee assignments. Democrats know that the risk of Republicans ever being in a position to return the treatment declines every time another illegal alien hops the border, an old white person dies, or an urban youth graduates from an inner-city Democrat madrassa.

You are exactly right

A lot of people wanted that money, and not just greedy people - a lot of financially strapped people. The Dem candidates said, vote for us and it will pass.

Mitch set it up so that voters had a choice with between two distinct concrete outcomes ( unlike most elections where there’s no direct immediate quantifiable difference for most people). In this case, as Mitch set it up , voters had a choice between getting $2 k or not getting $2k.

If I lived in Georgia and weren’t politically engaged , with concerns about a lot of other issues that take precedence, I would have voted for the 2k. For people who are politically independent or disengaged and aren’t ideological and who might have financial need right now , voting for 2k might be a no brainer

I’m sure the Dems are thanking Mitch

I was hoping Manchin could be persuaded to caucus with Republicans. But I’ve been reading twitter tonight and the Dems don’t seem worried at all that he would do that.

[Georgia voters saw that as a stab in the back by the GOP. Their votes for Ossoff and Warnock was their retribution. ]

Wasn’t Republicans voting for Democrats. Trump’s $2K promise, once mentioned, had to be brought up for a vote. Without that promise, there would have been no issue. But once it came up, and Trump kept hammering on it, it was incumbent on McConnell to bring it up for a vote.

We lost because the $2K became a Democrat GOTV issue. For the typical Democrat, 10 minutes for $2K is a no-brainer. For the typical Republican, why would you vote to transfer money from your left pocket to your right pocket, especially when there will be substantial leakage, and the vast majority of that money will go to Democrats? Trump sabotaged the GOP, and McConnell joined in the sabotage. The GA defeat had two fathers, only one of which was McConnell.

You think “talk to your school board” will turn this? Talk to a school board anymore. You’ll find them as craven and dismissive as any other politicians. They will vomit “woke” all over you. And if they don’t, they’ll sadly explain that they can only do what the state allows them and that everything has been centralized. And they’ll tell you that the Feds and courts have a hammerlock on the states.

Dream on. Changing the things 2nd graders learn won’t stop the communist mobs in the street, or the end of elections in America.

You need to wake up. Dems are stealing the Senate tonight in the same way they stole the November election. Caravans are already coming towards the border. By this time next year, 30 million illegals will be new voters. Voter fraud is fully instituted. The next two elections will be conducted under the Biden/Kamala DOJ.

There is one way out.
An analogy for you. You are discussing aircraft maintenance after the spar has failed and the wing is gone. The only answer now is your parachute.

Be did absolutely nothing to prevent the mail-in fraud that occurred in the general election film from occurring in the run-offs.

If you are saying the only way to stop this is bloodshed, I agree with you. But I don’t believe it will happen. From the posts I have read too many have deluded themselves into believing that they will be another election in 2022 and they can take everything back. They do not have the sense to realize that if the Democrats can get away with stealing this election, they can steal the next one. I wish we had fought. But I lost all hope of us doing that.

Not so much anymore.

We’re not going through any civil war. Stop talking nonsense.

Civil wars can take many forms.

The Turtle could have salvaged this by doing a $2T bill before the elections. Instead, he stonewalled that - resulting in Trump’s defeat. Then he stonewalled the $2K. It’s almost as if he wanted to rub Trump’s face in the dirt, to dance on his grave. Here’s to hoping this defeat results in McConnell being relegated to plain old senator, exiled from any GOP senate leadership positions.

We can fight a civil war every single day by minimizing our support for their Chinese made economy. The dollar is more powerful than the ballot box for now.

-- I don't see how they can support him as leader after he did everything possible to lose them those two senate seats. --

What are the options? Who else would take it?

The author of this piece is a nitwit. McConnell was just elected to serve as the Republican leader in the Senate as soon as the new session of Congress began in the last couple of days.
