The Senate wrapped up a rare New Year's Day session with Republicans rejecting President Donald Trump's demand for $2,000 COVID-19 aid checks and overriding his veto of a sweeping defense bill, an unusual one-two rebuke at the end of a chaotic Congress.
Democrats tried a final time to push forward a House-passed bill that would boost the $600 direct aid payments just approved by Congress to $2,000 as Trump demanded for millions of Americans. Republicans blocked a vote, arguing in favor of a more targeted approach.
The rejection of Trump's top priorities, along with the first veto override of his presidency, offered an unusual willingness by the president's party to confront Trump, now in his final days in the White House after losing the November election to President-elect Joe Biden.
Trump lashed out at GOP leadership on Twitter. “Pathetic!!!" he wrote.

It’s a real shame, but I guess Senator Ossoff and Senator Warnock are going to have to be the ones to upset Mitch’s applecart.
President Trump is right and I wish more Republicans would stand with him. It’s disgusting to see them all scattering to the wind at this moment.
I wonder if Republican voters will hold them accountable for their actions.
does this one include the hundreds of millions of dollars pork for pakistan and other things?
Republicans showing their true colors, not just red but Marxist red!
So the president no longer has the authority to bring troops home. Everyone who voted for RINOS should be ashamed of the themselves.
F*CK the GOP and the DemocRATs!! Enough of their cheap shiite!
Yes!
President Trump wanted to help American citizens instead of giving trillions of dollars to foreigners.
Most of the Republicans in Congress found the very idea of helping American citizens disgusting.
I look forward to joining the America First Party.
wow that’s really sick
Endless War is a top priority for globalists.
The Truth is, Mitch and the GOP Senate have been undercutting Trump for four years, but they have tried to do so in a quiet way that wasn’t obvious to Republican voters. For example, they never once formally recessed, so Trump couldn’t fill the many empty posts in his administration with “recess appointments”. Meanwhile, they slow-walked his regular appointments and made sure they were swamp people, not true Trump supporters
But in the last month they’ve come out of the closet and begun to knife Trump more openly and brazenly, because they see him as on his way out.
GOP to everyone:
“We already gave that money to transgender support in Pakistan!”
They did not have to override the Veto. They could have renogotiated and got some of what President Trump objected to taken care of. This was an act of defiance to seperate themselves from President Trump. They stabbed him in the back just when he needed their support the most.
In the future I will mention this to the RNC every time I get a phone call begging for money. They are a bunch of gutless wonders. Their only hope is if President Trump manages to successfully fight this election travesty and they fall in behind him like good little boys and girls. Otherwise they are completely screwed.
Agreed. If Donald Trump would start a third party I believe that millions of both Republicans and Democrats would join. I am done with both of the major parties. They don’t give a crap about US citizens. They are all globalists.
China Mitch and his posse of cowards are nothing more than a bunch of spineless jackals. They only move in when they sense a weakness. Instead of supporting their candidate, they undertook backstabbing and undermining, to the detriment of the American people. It’s not enough that we have commies for Dimmocraps, but we have faithless go-alongs as GOP members. Only a handful of the GOP, such as Cruz, Hawley, Cotton, et al have shown that they are willing to fight for us. This is not the path to greatness, only the whole country going the way of NYC, a cesspool of oblivion.
Rule 230 was left unchanged. Big Tech wasn’t reigned in and will continue to censure people and organizations on the right.
Purdue and Loeffler took the cowardly route on the veto override. They didn’t vote.
Vote them out! Bye bye GOP...get ready for a bloodbath Rhinos!
The GOP didn’t rebuff Trump as much as the American people. Tuesday’s Georgia vote will reflect on Mitch and the Country Clubbers.
