I doubt that “loneliness” has ever been listed as a cause of death anywhere.
No, they list it as “Covid”.
Lonliness diminishes the will to live - which absolutely can cause death.
And it won’t be on your death certificate or mine my friend, but We Both Know it will have been one of the bigger causes of our deaths.
Both of our posts make that obvious.
No, you won’t.
But it can and does cause “a failure to thrive.”
That is something that makes its way onto a death certificate.
Maybe not listed, but I absolutely know it was the main cause of the death of my mother-in-law this past Spring.
She did not understand why the family was not visiting her. We called often & explained the restrictions to her, but she was not grasping it.
We did not see her at all for the last 6 weeks of her life. (But they told us we could come look at her dead body if we wanted ... cruel!)
Before the lock-downs, we made sure she was eating, keeping clean, getting some exercise and engaging in activities. Without us there, she just stopped eating and eventually stayed in bed all the time, not really interacting. She lost all dignity, which was extremely important to her. The aides we paid for tried to help, but she just gave up on life.
Sad.
