If you haven’t treated the dead guy or seen his death certificate, you don’t know for a fact what he died of.

a new seat for the dems....

Nonsense.
They lost in December but then will somehow win in January?
The Dems lost every single “tossup” seat in the House, plus some “lean Dem” seats as well.

JBE cannot appoint someone to the House, but he can the U.S. Senate. This tragic death requires a special election, likely in March or April. The seat will be vacant on Jan. 6.

That’s pretty much what my doc said, too. Several months ago I asked him what he thought about the Dr. Marik (and many others) protocol and his answer was “follow the CDC guidelines.” I need to fix that.

The PROBLEM is not that the virus is real or not real.

It is real. It exists. People get sick, people die from it.

Only a crackpot would say that it DOESN'T exist.

Even young seemingly healthy people die from strains of flu in normal years, and this poor man may have been one of those types of people. It is sad, and it happens.

Everything from blaming it on his not wearing a mask, to him being Republican, to malfeasance or malpractice on the part of medical people who were caring for him is as distasteful and shameful as a crackpot who says "the virus doesn't exist".

It is also distasteful and shameful to characterize people questioning or resistance to unnecessary, draconian, and unconstitutional measures as "crackpots" or treating them as such, which I also see in this forum.

The REAL PROBLEM is OUR response as a nation to this virus:

THOSE things are not fraudulent. THOSE things are both real ramifications going on now, and undeniable (if not likely) possibilities. All of those things are going to have real and far-reaching consequences, and denial of that makes a person just as ignorant as someone who says the "virus doesn't exist".

In a sane world, we would give THOSE people who deny these long reaching effects the same treatment we should give the crackpots who say "the virus doesn't exist".

If this had been a pathogen with a 40% mortality rate like Buobonic Plague, all of those things listed above would be justified, and furthermore, you wouldn't have complaints about infringements on civil rights, abuses by government, or complaints about wearing masks.

People would not only readily tolerate these things, but might even barricade themselves in their houses and arm themselves to prevent contact with others who might want to interact with them against their will.

But THIS pandemic is NOT that. This pandemic should be treated by the general population who do not fall into risk categories no differently than a severe flu, and those who DO fall into risk categories should be protected by themselves, and by institutions who may provide care to them.

This INSANE hollowing out of an economy, abuse of government power, and general damage to the cohesion of society is completely asinine for something which ostensibly kills roughly 2% of the people it infects overall, though I have major issues with even that calculation.

To blame the resistance of people to heel to obvious infringements on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness on crackpots who say the "virus doesn't exist" is just as reprehensible and disgusting as the crackpots who say "the virus doesn't exist". At least they have the excuse of being "crackpots".

Very sensible post.
No one is going to deny thee is a virus out there and it sometimes kills people.
However, we've had viruses out there since mankind was on this planet. We don't quarantine entire countries, young and old, healthy and sick, stop schools, shut down economies, destroy businesses, put hundreds of millions out of work, because of some diseases.
In the Great Plague of London in 1665, up to 20% of the population of London was wiped out by the disease. They still never shutdown the entire city and quarantine healthy people. The rich of course fled the city and went to their country mansions in the countryside, same as the people of UWS(Upper West Side in Manhattan) did this year.

I understand completely. I am tired of ducking this issue.

This country (all countries) should have been taking a realistic, pragmatic look at this whole situation from the start, or at least from the time when the nature of the pathogen was more clearly seen.

I am one of those people who did not have a problem with the lockdown up until the first or second week of April 2020… By then, the pathogen was beginning to be well understood and we should’ve been taking appropriate and realistic actions then.

Before that time, I fully understand that we didn’t know the nature of the pathogen, and being safe rather than sorry was probably prudent.

After that, the response became both emotional and political. I think President Trump was one of the few people who looked at it appropriately in his role, but he was overruled by political advisors as well as politically motivated medical advisers.

But that certainly wasn’t the point of my post primarily, my point was that the ramifications of a extended shut down of the American economy are going to have long reaching effects that are being disregarded completely.

And I think those effects are far more hazardous to our population by far than this pathogen itself.

I know you two, and people like you understand this point of view.

And don't say, yeah, but if he hadn't got the corona virus, he wouldn't have died.

If he hadn't contracted COVID he would not have died. There's about 5 to 10 times smaller chance he would have died from a pneumonia and heart attack with flu. Let's hear your explanation of why there are 400k more deaths this year than an average year.
