t's one of the most elegant and environmentally responsible ways to prepare your morning cup of coffee, but if you're regularly using a French press, you could be doing serious damage to your body in the long run, according to a study published in The European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.
"Unfiltered coffee contains substances which increase blood cholesterol," explains study author Dag Thelle, a senior professor in the public health and community medicine department of the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. "Using a filter removes these and makes heart attacks and premature death less likely."

Sorry to bother you all with this question, but What is a French Press? and what is French-Pressed coffee?
Ignorantly yours,
Clueless in Asheville.
I heat up instant coffee in a microwave oven. Haven’t aged in 25 years.
Don’t drink coffee?????? I can’t even find my pants until I’ve had a couple cups. Wife knows better than try to have a conversation with BC.
I found Percolators in the Sports section....camping equipment etc.
I wonder if an electric Percolator does the same? I have seen these more often.
If you filter?
Ha!...I’m dangerous without first having coffee!.....Clumsy for sure!...but don’t even try conversation! LOLL
Ahhh... Nanny-staters “Eat This No That” is a bunch of fun-killers.
It was thanks to them that I discovered the Hardee’s ThickBurger Monster Burger, and followed it up with a Starbucks frappachino!
Mark
That’s a lot of stents. Was bypass surgery not possible?
Is this another study we paid for?
So why aren’t all 67 million Frenchies all dead? And what is a French press?
Another stupid “study” that totally wastes our time.
If using a french press to make coffee was half as ‘deadly’ as this silly article would have us believe, I’d have died 20 years ago.
I know that. It is possible, though, to heat liquid higher than that.
Your body produces more cholesterol than you eat because it needs it to function - brain, immune system, hormones etc.
The problem is processed foods, carbs, sugars and a low fat diet.
These people still pushing the deadly “food pyramid?”
If you want the true cowboy experience you could throw the ground coffee in your pot, give it a stir and heat up the water.
After a while, pour off the coffee with as few of the grounds as possible ending up in your cup.
You could pour the brew through a bit of cloth or a sock to filter out the grounds if you prefer your coffee less chewy.
Arab coffee: Thick, black, bitter coffee, traditionally served in tiny cups at gunpoint.
LOL. An old buddy of mine loved to make coffee in a sauce pan. One night we closed the bar and I slept on his couch. He awoke me with a cup of it. It was a real eye opener.
Watch out for that bus.
Or dump a couple eggshells from fixin' breakfast into the pot while the coffee brews and the eggs fry...
“I know that. It is possible, though, to heat liquid higher than that.”
You would be dead before the coffee hit you.
