The US government will now require all airline passengers arriving from the United Kingdom to test negative for COVID-19 starting Monday.

A new mutant strain of the virus that is 70 percent more infectious is spreading in Britain, prompting many countries to shut their borders to travelers from there.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a statement Thursday that all airline passengers arriving from the UK must test negative within 72 hours of departure.

The first guy in the USA with the virus (Washington State) was already on the 5th(?) mutation of the virus. IIRC, mutations can happen every time it enters a host, thrives, and then is passed on.

And it can be just minor changes - or can be significant changes. And “more infectious” may mean less deadly.

IIRC, Ebola was/is very deadly, but the person usually died before they could travel too far to spread it (so less infectious) to other people.

A couple in our church had it. The wife (78?) spent a few days in the hospital. The husband (80+) tested positive with no symptoms.

OTOH, my daughter’s 20-something coworker got it, recovered, but 4 months later still gets winded after walking 20 feet.

That kind of stuff also makes one think!

Yes. That initial study was terribly flawed, and that 70% number was essentially pulled out of a hat. It sure looks good in screaming headlines, though.

What's the problem?

Just require all travelers wear a face mask and wash their hands.

I’d prepare for once or twice a month announcements of more mutant types of Covid to occur, and this testing business is found to marginally effective. Won’t surprise me if by spring...all international travel is halted for six months.

Mkhize lambastes UK travel ban, Covid-19 variant in SA is not more dangerous than UK variant

If we are not sure how contagious the UK mutation is, here is another claim that this one in South Africa is "not more contagious than whatever the "UK varuant" is.

Yeah, that’ll work.

Holy shit: Here we go again.

Next up: “Oh, by the way...the ‘vaccine’ doesn’t protect from this strain.”

Then: The Harris Lockdown.

You obviously don’t understand science. The two approved vaccines target the spike protein that allow the virus to invade the ACE2 cell receptors. Those spike proteins have not changed nor mutated the vaccines will still work, and since SARS I and MERS both have nearly identical spike proteins the vaccines will also work for those. The Modera version was created days after the DNA was released back in March why? Because there already was a SARS I vaccine and they just adjusted it to target the proteins of the SARS II COVID strain. In fact all 30 coronavirus share the same spike proteins so in theory the two approved vaccines would also prevent coronavirus based colds too. But given that coronavirus based colds are less than 20% of the total of all colds the effect will be minimal most “colds” are rhinovirus

My understanding of the Influenza vaccine is that a guessing game takes place 2 years in advance, out of 6 strains of the Flu, on which strain to produce a vaccine for it. And just about every year, except this year where there is magically an absence of Influenza, around December the CDC will issue a report through the MSM mouthpieces that the initial vaccine of that year was ineffective, as another strain of the Flu became dominant, and that another Flu Shot will be necessary. That’s how it works, why would it be different for Covid?
