Idaho attorney general won't join Texas election lawsuit

Idaho's attorney general says he's declining to join a lawsuit filed by Texas seeking to overturn the outcome of the presidential election by invalidating the results in four battleground states Donald Trump lost. Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden in a statement Thursday said the decision is necessary to protect Idaho's sovereignty. Here is the full statement:

"I've spent substantial time reviewing Texas's Bill of Complaint so I could fully understand and consider the legal arguments being made. After doing so, I am declining to join this effort. As I have done since the day I took my oath of office – in which I pledged to uphold and protect both the Idaho and U.S. constitutions – I strive to protect the State of Idaho's legal interests. As is sometimes the case, the legally correct decision may not be the politically convenient decision. But my responsibility is to the State of Idaho and the rule of law.

This decision is necessary to protect Idaho's sovereignty. As Attorney General, I have significant concerns about supporting a legal argument that could result in other states litigating against legal decisions made by Idaho's legislature and governor. Idaho is a sovereign state and should be free to govern itself without interference from any other state. Likewise, Idaho should respect the sovereignty of its sister states."

On Wednesday, the Idaho Republican Party announced it will file an amicus brief in support of the Texas suit:

The Idaho Republican Party fully supports Texas in its efforts to ensure that our elections meet the high standards and expectations of the U.S. Constitution. The people need certainty and clarity to restore their faith that the integrity of our elections was maintained.

Gov. Brad Little announced Thursday he proudly stands with the Idaho Republican Party in supporting Texas in its efforts to ensure American's elections meet the highest standards and expectations of the U.S. Constitution, and he will file an amicus brief in support of the lawsuit. "Idaho's elections are safe and secure, and we expect the same of other states. Protecting the sanctity of the voting process is paramount to ensuring a strong democratic process, and our citizens need the confidence that their vote counts."

The Idaho AG will find out that under a completely Democrat controlled government no state will have sovereignty. The Democrats will quickly move to usurp any states’ authority that does not conform with their agenda. Naive at best.

Idaho isn’t what people think it is, it’s being Californicated.

Bull. Trump won 64% of the vote in Idaho in 2020, as opposed to "only" 59% in 2016. The state is as conservative as it has ever been.

against legal decisions made by Idaho's legislature and governor.
So... "illegal" decisions ought to be reviewed... and if those "decisions" are illegal, what what the hell you 'supposed to do, ya mohron?

And if someday the ID administration and/or judiciary took action contrary to the Idaho constitution what would the AG do???? - such as change the constitutionally correct voting law.

Agreed but Idaho is not necessarily what everyone thinks. The state is red but it is far more libertarian than conservative, IMHO.

If I understand your question?

Congress itself cannot pass unconstitutional laws!
(Well, they can but they can be overruled!)

In Marbury v. Madison the Supreme Court announced for the first time the principle that a court may declare an act of Congress void if it is inconsistent with the Constitution.

So if congress can't pass mandates or laws which conflict with the constitution .. how would that not apply to any Emergency Power Mandates by a governor?

These Unconstitutional laws/restrictions are allowed to stand because .. the American people have 'surrendered' their freedom to their Masters!
(And the total ignorance of the Constitution)

Really not much difference from my WA now. But most of the little people in the rural areas of both states are still good.

SCOTUS has recently pushed back on the “pandemic panic” argument justifying dictatorship regarding religious issues.

It is up to us Idahoan GOPers to begin the search earlier than early for primary opponent to Worthless Weasel Wasden (the election is less than 2 years away, and we have exceptionally long memories).

We also need an excellent GOP candidate (we had a truly repellent fool named Coles last time) for Boise mayor to somehow unseat the uber-left wing McClean.

.

“Idaho is a future vassal of Kalifornia.”

Yes, a good friend was transferred to Idaho and he absolutely loves the place. But he also said that California “elites” are moving into the state in droves building expensive homes and bringing their politics and money with them. They are seeking eventual control.

Everyone is “squishy” according to this website this past month. William Barr (who probably had near unanimous approval here only two months ago), Brian Kemp (who FReepers were 100% gung ho for against Casey Cagle), probably Clarence Thomas on Monday if the Supreme Court rules 9-0 against Texas...

Idaho isn’t what people think it is, it’s being Californicated.

I left Boise in 1983 and Californication was well underway even then. It's happening nationally. Only one thing will stop it.

I haven’t trusted Bill Barr since he was AG when Lon Horiuchi murdered a woman holding a baby and Bill Barr defended him.
