Chicago alderman’s Ann Sather restaurant facing up to $10,500 in possible fines for indoor dining violations

Wrigleyville Ald. Tom Tunney’s Ann Sather restaurant is facing up to $10,500 in possible fines from the city after the Chicago aldermen acknowledged letting people eat inside the establishment in violation of city and state rules designed to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

...snip...

The city also cited an unlicensed event at 1257 N. Milwaukee Ave in Wicker Park. Officials responded to a call early on Dec. 5 and found “a bouncer outside of an event billed as the ‘Wicker Loft,’ ” Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s office said in a statement.

There were 142 people in the building who either weren’t social distancing or wearing face coverings and the city cited them for operating an illegal, unlicensed club, officials said.

City officials also cited River North CrossFit for allegedly conducting indoor fitness classes, Randy’s Lounge on Cottage Grove for allegedly holding an indoor event with 42 attendees, Volare restaurant on Grand and Firewater Saloon on Oliphant for allegedly allowing indoor dining. Another business, Flava Luxx on Madison, was cited for allegedly holding an indoor event with 22 attendees eating and drinking without social distancing or face coverings, the city said.

A spokesman for the city’s Business Affairs and Consumer Protection Department said Tunney’s restaurant is facing two citations, one that could result in a fine of up to $10,000 and the other up to $500.

Tunney, a key member of Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s City Council leadership team as her hand-picked chair of the Zoning Committee, previously acknowledged diners have been eating inside his Belmont Avenue restaurant and called it an “error in judgment.”

“We’ve been sporadically letting some people in, regulars at the restaurant, to accommodate them from time to time,” Tunney said Monday. “It’s done. It will not continue, as of today.”

He’ll just give the citation to his alderman, himself.

All the wise-cracks will cease when it becomes common understanding that SEVERAL DOZEN THOUSAND small, family businesses are no longer in existence.
Wait until the unemployment figures become permanent and the cities with dictatorial mayors find their TAX revenues sinking like a stone, not to mention the countless thousands who have lost their jobs.

I have to assume a lot of prohibition era speakeasies have re-opened, and are doing rather brisk business.

They have yet to prove indoor dining has anything to do with large cases of CCPVirus spread, but keep trying to destroy restaurants, gyms, etc.

I read that in MA almost 40% of small businesses are gone. Meanwhile the idiot RINO Gov. talks about just keep wearing you mask, social distance, etc. while I keep adding restrictions to business so eventually we can get back dining out, concerts, etc.

He is too dumb to realize that he is killing business and when he finally says “your free, go back to living again” many events will not take place for another year if ever, business will be shuttered, etc.

Back when I lived in Chicago in the 1980s, Ann Sather’s had the best cinnamon rolls and Swedish pancakes.

Gives them something to do. Even if there’s no “science” to “follow”, government needs to do something.

The plan is to kill all small business where they will never come back and then reset it by offering low interest loans AND GRANTS to blacks, minorities, women,(of color of coarse) transgender, gay and lesbian to take your place. Government killing your livelihood and family to give it to others they fell deserve it. Time to water that tree

One time they had a duck breast special with mashed potatoes and a carraway seed sauerkraut. 30 years later I still dream about it. I’ve ordered duck dozens of times in restaurants since, chasing that buzz, and been disappointed every time.

I'm with SCC. Someone wants that property and the city is helping them get it.
