I know of THREE people who were killed sitting in the front passenger seat and were the only ones in the car wearing a seat belt. In one case a semi-truck hit that side of the car and the baby I used to babysit buckled in his car seat (this was when baby seats were allowed in the front) was killed instantly. A friend in high school was belted in the front passenger when the van hit a tree and she was killed instantly. Another friend was riding home from a Bible study, sitting in the front passenger when someone running a red light hit the car and it hit a tree. She was killed instantly.

So, for those three being belted in is what got them killed as they were pinned and crushed to death.

My dad had a truck roll over and land on top of his car. It was the biggest one piece box truck made. Crushed the roof right down to the hood and trunk. He dove down and all he got was cuts on his left knuckle when the windshield came down on the steering wheel with his hand still gripping it. If he had a seat belt on, he wouldn’t have been able to dive down like he did, especially if it was a shoulder belt with his left hand still gripping the wheel. Could have been bad. I’ve got 8x11 glossy photos of the car because a photographer happened to be there and he sent them to my dad. 70 something Plymouth satellite hard top. If he was in a little car, he’d have been screwed.
