Scan the sports headlines, and it's not hard to see that the NFL and college football are increasingly in the crosshairs of the radical left's bid to take down America through COVID. And if recent history is any indication, Roger Goodell will soon fall all over himself to show that the NFL and he should be patted on the back by Dr. Fauci and the rest of the ruling class elites, in step with the leftist trends they all (wrongly) believe to be sweeping America.
Football has always been reviled by the left. It is quintessentially American: invented in this country; played by high-testosterone, masculine men; and operating almost entirely as a super-competitive meritocracy — i.e., the test of whether someone gets to play in the NFL is whether he can play, and play better than the other guy. In the NFL in 2020, there's no time to humor racism or any other "ism" in fielding a winning team; there's only the all-defining imperative priority to put the best players on the field and "coach 'em up" to play the game well.
All of those attributes of the sport are precisely why it has been so popular in America; it has been aligned with American cultural norms and preferences for decades. The sport's popularity is in fact proof that America as a whole is not racist — systemically or otherwise. Americans don't root for their team or watch the NFL in huge numbers based on a team's compliance with racial hiring quotas; they root and watch because they appreciate the best playing the best using talents that most of us don't have, and deciding on a level playing field who wins a competitive game and who loses.

I thought they were destroying it with #BLM.
I was with family over the holidays in Chicago. We were watching a football game (something I never do) and I noticed the crowd sounded kinda weird, like it was out of synch with the plays or something.
Then I realized there was no actual crowd there - at all.
It hit me that the players were playing to a completely empty stadium and that would drastically change the dynamics of the game. Kinda like a comedian playing to no audience. But even more impactive, the place being quiet allows them to easily communicate verbally on the field during plays, even yelling at wide receivers during the actual play.
It seems to me this could change tactical strategies.
But beyond that, I refused to continue watching the farce and went downstairs and played some pool...

Um...they have already destroyed football with racial politics. Now that they have converted it into a useful tool for spreading Leftist messaging, why would they want to make it disappear completely?
First, it’s not just the NFL....it’s encompassing the NBA as well.
Second, you’d basically destroy the NCAA ‘machine’ and the path for marginal kids to pretend/fake their way through college.
Third, if the NBA and NFL don’t exist in these major cities....there’s all this hotel income, tourist income, nightclub income...that won’t exist. It lessens probably 40-percent of visitor income to a lot of these towns.
Where I sit in the blue part of Ohio, leftism is indeed gaining support and prevailing.

There are two possibilities, which are not mutually exclusive. One is that the NFL is playing the long game, assuming that its upcoming fan base is majority SJW, and the NFL is willing to jettison its older conservative fans for the future. The other is that the NFL leadership fears any SJW backlash and so is in effect paying for protection, both with money and with a willingness to do what it is told by the elites.
The communist plan to destroy this country has been available for viewing since the 50’s. Part of the plan is to tear down the culture. A country that has become an empty shell makes it easy to turn communist. This country is full of useful idiots, like Goodell.

I used to love football as a sport. Loved it. Got so much entertainment and socialization out of it.
Now, I simply cannot watch it since they have gone in completely with the Left.

The UFC has leased an entire island in Abu Dabi where it is holding its MMA matches. It hasn’t missed a beat since May. Granted it’s easier for boxing/MMA than for team sports.
The NFL and NBA are killing themselves. Let them die a horrible painful death and let those overpaid entitled men playing a child’s game reap the benefits of being “woke”.

not a real contact sport anymore imo. once they came in with these weird rules about “defenseless receivers” etc. I lost interest. And they wont fix the concussion issue until the helmets are redesigned either. Id rather watch the UFC and Bellator MMA. More sportsmanship after on fight than a whole sunday of nfl. When’s the last time you saw a player from the opposing team help the other teams player up off the turf? don’t happen anymore....its all about intimidation which is a sign of immaturity IMO.

Amen. Too many other options out there. At the end of the day its just entertainment. I dont like entertainment that insults my country and calls me a racist because of the pigmentation of my skin.
