Brace Yourself, New York. With legislative supermajorities in Albany, Democrats look poised to push the state even further leftward.
City Journal ^ | November 27, 2020 | E. J. McMahon

As if a second wave of Covid-19 infections weren’t enough, New York’s prospects for economic recovery will face new headwinds—from Albany.

When most of the state’s record 1.9 million mail-in ballots were finally counted this week, it became clear that the New York State Senate’s existing 40-member Democratic majority would grow by at least two seats—giving them their first-ever two-thirds supermajority of the 63-member chamber, enough to override gubernatorial vetoes.

The landmark comes two years after Democrats took control of the legislature’s upper house for only the third time since World War II. Combined with their long-standing supermajority in the 150-member assembly, legislative Democrats now are positioned to have the final word on New York State’s response to enormous state and local budget gaps created by the instant pandemic recession last spring.

As of November, Albany faced a budget shortfall of about $8 billion for the current fiscal year and $16.7 billion for 2022, which begins April 1. Allowing for Governor Cuomo’s habitual inflation of budget numbers, reduce those projected deficits by one-third and the outlook for Albany remains as difficult and challenging as it’s ever been. Federal aid, if and when it flows, will be only a temporary stopgap.

Over the past 25 years, the state government has become increasingly dependent on revenues generated in Manhattan offices and trading floors that remain largely vacant. Government spending, now running far ahead of even the most optimistic revenue projections, must adjust to new economic realities.

But economic reality doesn’t factor into the rising Albany worldview. On average, the state’s incoming class of legislators are more inclined to tax, spend, and regulate—and far from hesitating to impose more restrictions on a shaky economy, they see the pandemic-driven crisis as an opportunity to be exploited.

Are they joking??

Unless a bunch of dems in the senate lurch towards even just left of center, there’s nothing to override.

Ah, but what if they lurch toward ever more extreme radical leftism? Imagine a legislature that makes AOC and Bernie Sanders look moderate.

“Let’s make New York look like Venezuela!”

Ah that’s easy.

It just means we have to elect a more radically, insanely left governor :)

And we’re just the state to do it!!

I don’t care how decadent and dangerous and filthy brooklyn and manhattan and the bronx become...but when they try to start building projects on the south shore of staten island, then we will have a big fight.

Case in point...

NY considers permanent expansions to mail-in voting

BTW, if anyone needs a resident for standing in a court case regarding election fraud on the local and state level in NY, because no way did they get those gains honestly, ping me. Best part: I'm a registered 'Rat.

California has enjoyed ‘veto-proof’ democrat majorities for some time now. Depending on NY Senate rules, no easy way for Republican senators to thwart democrat will. If the dems can agree they can do and pass anything they want. Higher taxes, looser voting requirements, even stricter gun laws...the sky’s the limit. And there’ll be nothing to stop them.

Personally, I think most of the thinking republicans have left the state by now. They gave up on it. My bet is that most of the State Congresses are loaded down with ambulance chasers who went broke trying to make a living in the shark invested profession.

Did some business on the South Shore of Staten Isl the other day (had no idea there was an actual lighthouse down there) had to go into an office. Decided the hell with a mask. Went in, NO ONE was wearing a mask. They thought the idea funny.

Another case in point: NY-22.

Take a real good look at what is happening to Tenney.

“Federal aid, if and when it flows...”

There you go. They expect the responsible states to pay for the utterly corrupt reckless Rat states to bail them out.

That’s what puppet Biden wants to spend the $7 trillion on. Borrow, print and spend like there is no tomorrow. And every day, another 50,000 illegals come flooding into the country looking for cradle-to-grave welfare.

That doesn’t seem to bother SOME PEOPLE here regarding the US Senate (as they support losing the races in Georgia to help ‘purify’ the party).

Funny how after Election Day the Dems had actually lost seats and now it’s the old:

“We found ballots!” and abra cadabra they have reversed election results that they didn’t like.

This is just pathetic. Congrats GOP!!! Your wonderful Marques of Queensbury philosophy has lead to your extinction.

Sadly there are many of us left in Upstate. In my somewhat rural area, every other house is flying a Trump flag or has a Trump lawn sign
We need a STATE electoral college

Gov. A Cornuto (D-NY) shouldn’t hold his breath waiting for federal aid.

Legalize online gambling to grab the tax revenue - that’s the ticket. What’s a little familial discord in the Empire State?

That sounds about right :)

We appreciate you coming here to do business :)

Honestly though, there are some places enforcing it.

I went to a tire place and the guy freaked when I walked in with no mask.

What am I gonna do? I needed some new tires and I was on a spare already.

People here always tell me to leave.

This is my home.

Trump signs and American flags everywhere.

Besides, I need at least 15 pizzerias within 3 miles driving distance :)

Every place that has instituted mail in ballots have cemented democrats in super majorities with the inherent massive fraud.

We’re bustin’ my mom out of NY tomorrow. She’ll probably want to go back in the spring, but it’s her choice.
