I know what that kind of work environment can be like. Today’s Left is nowhere near as “tolerant” as the lefties back then when there was still some semblance of civility. But even then conservatives still mostly kept their views to themselves.
During the Obama years office political tensions and resentment definitely rose but after Trump was elected it got downright hostile.

I wasn’t shy about my views because I had good job security.
I made some of them have to walk out of the room a few times :)
In retrospect, they were right on a few issues...the endless wars...both parties are corrupt...but that was about it.
And in dark hallways and corridors, some of them would tell me in secret that they agreed with me. :)
I can’t say anything bad about most of them..except the militant gays.
In fact, when I told some if the conversations bothered them, we should stop them.
They said they would be insulted if I thought just my politics could make them dislike me
