Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden wants to put in place a tax on certain guns that people already own.
According to one analysis, the plan could cost current gun owners across the country a total of up to $34 billion.
Biden wants to enact legislation to ban the manufacture and sale of “assault” weapons and high-capacity magazines.
He also plans to include those weapons into the National Firearms Act in order to impose a $200 tax for each gun that someone possesses already.
Nicholas Giordano, a Professor of Political Science at Suffolk Community College, says Biden’s proposal goes against the constitution.
Biden argues that the National Firearms Act has been in place since 1934.
But the 1934 act and its tax only apply to when a gun is manufactured. Not to already possessed ones.
Giordano says this year’s lockdown and violent riots in cities across the United States made people across the whole political spectrum realize how important gun ownership is.
By a 51-50 vote in the US Senate
you do know we are not remotely near to 51 dem votes for the to reach 51 votes
Many stand beside you
“you do know we are not remotely near to 51 dem votes for the to reach 51 votes”
Let’s see, they are at 48 votes now, the Georgia races, if SOME PEOPLE HERE have their way will put them at 50 votes, and then Harris will be vote #51. What are we all missing?
“I don’t see Manchin going along with it. He’s up for re-election in an otherwise all-red state. The pubbies only have to peel off one vote.”
He’s up in 2024 and he did support (and lead) the last gun grab attempt. What makes you think he won’t do so again?
This is a vastly more radioactive bill.
“This is a vastly more radioactive bill.”
Manchin hasn’t given our side jack on ANYTHING, including the Courts. I’d prefer not to leave the fate of the country in his hands.
A Trump win alone will prevent a slide into a leftist police state.
“And what is to say that the usual RINO suspects like Romney, Murkowski, Collins, Rubio, etc., won’t peel off to support this tax? And if the Democrats pack the Supreme Court, the tax will stand.
A Trump win alone will prevent a slide into a leftist police state. “
It’s NOT an either/or. Both Trump and the Georgia Republicans can win. But finding 60 votes to pass gun control will take 11 (or 12) Republicans if Georgia goes our way. Need ZERO Republican votes to pass gun control (i.e., no filibuster anymore) will be FAR EASIER for the Democrats to find, and will make the bill far, far, worse for gun owners.
Oh yea, forget about the courts too if Georgia goes Democrat, they’ll be packed with Shumer types.
Heh. My point was that the courts are not the place to look, for "follow the law." They are agents of the king, and if the king be an oppressor, so is the court.
The words on paper have no force. They are only words on paper. Mao nailed it. All power flows from the barrel of a gun. Are the people in power, or is the government? Rhetorical question.
Agreed. On all points...
Unless Romney or Collins or Murkowski flip.
It's over $1 per round of 5.56/223, if you can find it. Even the steel case russian is approaching that.
"The Constitution is whatever we say it is." SCOTUS
The tree of liberty needs refreshing. It demands the blood of tyrants. This will cost the precious blood of Patriots.
Unless Romney or Collins or Murkowski flip.
They won’t accomplish much if the filibuster is in place - they’ll need to find another 9 to 10 Republicans to flip.
Chuckie Schumer, suddenly the most powerful and dangerous man in America.
If he walks into that arena he better be ready for the unexpected many opt for that spot.
I don’t think the dems can pull of a full coup the did such a sloppy job with the election and it’s still not over.
Going to have to reevaluate my assets now!
And when did demonrats ever care about the constitution.🙄
How will they even know that you have the weapon and mag’s?
90% of them are not registered.
