Trump-friendly Newsmax a sudden competitor to Fox News
Las Vegas Sun ^ | November 18, 2020 | David Bauder

NEW YORK — Now that his largely invisible network has suddenly been flooded by fans of President Donald Trump, Newsmax television personality Grant Stinchfield is puffing out his chest.

“They don't know what to do with all of us,” Stinchfield said on the air Monday night. “We're killing it here on Newsmax with a tactic they've never tried. It's called the truth, the stone-cold truth, and once you get a taste of it, you will never tolerate being lied to again.”

In many cases, the opposite is true. Newsmax, the television arm of a conservative website, has reported falsely that Joe Biden is not the legitimate president-elect because of largely non-existent voter fraud. Its viewers are fed a diet of conspiracy theories to salve the wounds of an election loss — a tactic that's misleading at best and damaging to democracy at worst.

Yet Newsmax's burst, whether or not it lasts, has been astonishingly swift and could foreshadow the first serious threat to Fox News Channel's dominance with conservative viewers in two decades.

“We've really cornered Fox from the right,” said Chris Ruddy, Newsmax founder and friend of Trump. “They've never had that.”

From the beginning of July to the week before Election Day, Newsmax averaged 58,000 viewers from 7 to 10 p.m. on weekdays. That jumped to 568,000 the week after the election, the Nielsen company said. In the same period, daytime viewership increased from 46,000 to 450,000.

For the same dates, Fox News averaged 3.6 million viewers in the evening, Nielsen said. Fox's prime-time viewership during the two weeks after the election was up 50 percent over last year.

“We love competition. We have always thrived on competition,” Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch said on an Election Day earnings call.

I am happy that OANN and Newsmax are providing an alternative to Fox News.

I would love for Tucker Carlson to join OANN or Newsmax.

Well, it's a fairly detail-oriented article. That's why I posted it.

As for the quoted statistic, you have to parse the words. While Fox's numbers In mid-Nov 2020 are way down from Election Night 2020, that reduced figure is likely up meaningfully vs non election year prime time avg of 2.77MM viewers a year ago. Thus, it's entirely plausible that Fox's primetime ratings of about 3.8MM thru Nov 12 2020 was up close to vs that in November 2019.

On election night, FOX had the best vote tabulations above the chyron among all the news operations. But then the chyron was running crappy news tidbits which really irritated me. And when they called AZ for Biden I had a complete change of heart about their news operation. I still like Greg and Jesse, but it was like they handed the whole news thing to Juan Williams who is the token liberal. When they did that the FOX operation became "token liberal."

What the frigging hell?

I like a couple of shows on Newsmax but the production quality of their shows ain’t all that great. There are some shows, like Spicer and Co., that just suck.

Fox isn’t going anywhere. I know a lot of folks here are all bent out of shape by how Fox’s election coverage on network was awful (it was).

I’ll continue to watch Fox News. Their overall production quality and timeliness in reporting breaking news are excellent. There are a lot of shows there I won’t watch, but I still like F&F, Bill Hemmer, Maria Bartiromo, Harris Faulkner and Shannon Bream. They also have quite a stable of Fox News Contributors ant other top notch regular guests.

Many if not most who are currently boycotting Fox will be back. You watch.

The phrase “largely non-existent voter fraud” sounds s lot like “mostly peaceful protest.”

No, not likely. Once you insult and stab in the back your staunchest viewers it will be very hard, if not impossible to win them back. Fox basically pissed on their audience and tried to tell them it was raining.

Fox #’d up. No doubt.

But how many of you are perfectly fine with your ATT commitments?

I have no problem with Newsmax getting the attention, but it will amount to nothing.

CNN is ATT
NBC is Comcast

These two telecom operations have aggressively attacked Trump since 2016. If you’re unaware, that’s one thing. But if you’re in the know, and don’t GAS, you’re an a-hole, and should keep your pie-hole shut regarding Fox.

Totally agree on Namath commercials. Just hoping they land a variety of sponsors. There weekend coverage of constant fills ins like Nazi Germany and Hitler needs a trim down. They need more weekend news coverage once they become a player. I’ll give them more time and ratings to deal with that.

Sorry to disappoint, but I was a rabid fan of FBN.
When I noticed a slight change in Varney, I knew something was up.

I used to record all the shows from Varney to The Evening Edit mainly because that is when President Trump would make surprise appearances. No More. OAN and Newsmax cover our President’s appearances, so I don’t need them anymore.

And I SHALL NOT go back.

Real America’s Voice is also good. Steve Bannons War Room is addictive as hell! Better than Tucker or anything on Fox!

Typical lying Leftist BS article other than the admission that Newsmax instantaneously gained 10X as much of an audience as it had before.

The lie about Fox gaining viewers when in reality it’s ratings are crashing hard was especially laughable.

“We love competition. We have always thrived on competition,” Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch said on an Election Day earnings call.

It is now 16 days after the fraud, called an election, and what is lachlan's story now?

Needs garlic.

Those of us on the right will do what those on the left have tried to do for years but failed miserably. Those of us on the right that always want the truth and nothing but the truth will bring down Fox News merely by abandoning them in numbers sufficient to reduce Fox to the likes of CNN in the ratings. We have standards that we will not compromise. That is why we migrated to Fox initially—seeking the truth.

The Murdoch’s value their invitations to the elite social functions more than they value the truth. Let then sip wine with the liberals while their network evaporates.
