In the Pacific, the Army didn’t have many tanks, either.

You probably didnt mean it but that picture appears to be racist. Especially in 2020.

Marine Corp as part of the U.S. Navy, are swiftly responsive to the call of the U.S. President. The army ultimately answers to the U.S. Congress. This proposal would appear aimed at hindering the Executive.

His thinking is that a ground force is a ground force, a water force is a water force, an air force is an air force, and a space force...

Anyway, there’s some logic to the above.

There’s also logic in the notion that a naval force should have both a ground and air component. Likewise, a ground force should have its own air component.

The air force strategic interests are different from those of a tactical ground commander in most cases, but they’d be more aligned with the strategic interests of a space force. (Which will eventually need its own sardukar. Lol.)

Expand the Marines and get rid of the army. A standing army can be a real threat to freedom.

It looks like the Chinese are going to do/expand outward like the Japs did in WWII. We need the Marines now more than ever.

Right on the money. Similar experiences in the distant past with Uncle Ronnie’s Army - including as sole Army resident in room of Recon Marines at jump school.

As a whole, this sort of discussion usually arises when Marines get too far out of their natural scope of operations.

I cant speak to organizations within the Airforce.

I can speak to the staff structures and troop densities within Army and Marine light infantry battalions.

The Marine Infantry battalion structure can be found here on page 51:

https://www.marines.mil/Portals/1/Publications/MCRP%201-10.1.pdf?ver=2020-07-29-084128-323

The doctrine for the Army infantry battalion is ATP 3-21.20, but I cant find a version that you can access without a military ID.

Bottom line, they both have three rifle companies, 1 weapons company and a HQ with the same staff (S1,2,3,4,6, Chaplain, Scouts, Medical) sections...that are the same size.

I know Marines too...and I am friends with them as well.

I don’t know either why they got rid of their tanks, because all of our adversarial nations have heavily armored organizations that they will certainly use. BTRs, BMPs, T-80s and T-90s, and their 2S-19 mobile artillery...of which outranges OUR armored capability at present.

If the marines were to go it alone against an armored organization, they would be at a massive disadvantage without the tanks.

Without the tanks, they kind of lose the internal “full spectrum” capability that they are supposed to have.

There are douchbag officers in the Army that have animus for other Army officers that didn’t go through West Point and did OCS or ROTC instead.

In regards to the Marines, I worked with them throughout my career ALOT. I personally had a Marine EOD team, a Marine ANGLICO Team, a Marine Infantry platoon, and a Marine dog team attached to my Infantry company for the better part of months at one point in Iraq because we were in Al-Anabar, which was controlled by a Marine Division at the time.

The Marine EOD team were probably the bravest guys I ever met. It wasn’t like “charge the hill brave”...it was clip this wire and pull this 155 shell out of the hole and if I do it wrong I will be lights out/pink mist, brave. And they did it every night without complaint.

I love those guys, and that EOD Team showed up to Iraq with 12 guys, and left with 6.

The Marine Anglico team brought in the F-18s for us when we needed them. They went with us on all our missions. One Marine was standing ten feet from me when he got hit straight through the Kevlar by a sniper. His name was CPL Leon, and you can read about him here: americanfallensoldiers.com/christopher-leon/

The Marines have plenty to be proud of...as do we in the Army..I just have an allergic reaction to the USMC bravado at the expense of their brothers in the Army, because when it REALLY came down to it, we had each others backs equally, we were essentially interchangeable in the thick of it.

No doubt, and...thank you for serving.

I don’t have any doubt for a second that the esprit de corps of the USMC grates to the bone for many who aren’t in it, but that is the “secret sauce” for the USMC for better or worse.

For outsiders, it is obnoxious. For those inside it, it is indispensable. Not at all to be discounted.

As for the allergic reaction to the USMC bravado...we know that is nothing new or unexpected, it comes with the territory and they aren’t bashful about lording over it...THEY believe it in their bones. I recall reading about a discussion some Marines were having on some island in WWII where they were fighting with the Army, and many of them felt real and genuine sympathy for guys in the Army who had to fight with other Army guys they didn’t feel were reliable.

I am not agreeing or disagreeing with that sentiment, but recounted it because it shows that it isn’t an act...they really (for better or worse) really believe it in their hearts.

For full disclosure, I was not a Marine, I was a sailor. But I have a huge amount of respect for them, as I can see you do.

One of the first few Tom Clancy novels had a character about whom it was said “He has a long memory for slights against the Marine Corps.”
