Moderna: Covid vaccine shows nearly 95% protection
BBC News ^ | November 16, 2020 | By James Gallagher

A new vaccine that protects against Covid-19 is nearly 95% effective, early data from US company Moderna shows.

The results come hot on the heels of similar results from Pfizer, and add to growing confidence that vaccines can help end the pandemic.

Both companies used a highly innovative and experimental approach to designing their vaccines.

Moderna says it is a "great day" and they plan to apply for approval to use the vaccine in the next few weeks.

However, this is still early data and key questions remain unanswered.

As do I, my friend! However, I strongly suspect that you’ll have quicker access to it than I, given your role in directly providing care for those most seriously ill from this. And deservedly so, I will say.

Well depending on your age you have 99% chance of surviving without the vaccine. If you are young you'd be better off getting COVID than taking the vaccine.

That's true for just about any vaccine. You have a higher risk of complications from innoculation than from the disease. Why?

Herd immunity from vaccination. So the question boils down to whether, like flu, there's more herd immunity from getting the disease, and vaccinations don't help with herd immunity. Or whether it is more like measles where herd immunity from vaccinations has made the disease vanishingly rare (until the anti-vaxxers changed the equation). Thus making it better for the average kid to stay unvaccinated (but with a negative effect on her immunity).

Ya. As long as it is born mandatory.

Yes. One is hell be damned brute force and the other requires a lot due diligence precision.

One you are trying to kill a lot of people in a wide swath, the other is you are trying to avoid killing people.

What are the long term effects. The test and conclusions window is short. Even shorter because it is be rushed.

Have ever produced a vaccine like this type before?

“It’s rushed” is a Democrat talking point. None of them are being “rushed”. They’re moving through the same testing everything does.

These are the first vaccines on the mRNA platform produced for humans before. Vaccines on the mRNA platform have been used in other animals before, such as the one for Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus. The vaccines themselves are extremely simple (in terms of what’s put into the body), so there isn’t much to go wrong here. It’s mRNA (which at body temperatures will be broken down to nothing in days) contained in a lipid (fat) shell, which itself absorbs into the cell membranes on contact. The S-protein produced by ribosomes in contact with the mRNA is - on its own - noninfectious and harmless. It’s simply the component of the virus that enables it to bind to and access human cells.

So what exactly is the concern, beyond the general idea that maybe possibly something bad might happen at some point in the future? What - specifically - is the concern with this? This platform removes the typical vaccine issues around allergies (there’s no egg medium used to culture anything) and removes the need for adjuvants. There’s no inactivated pathogen that could mistakenly be left activated. There’s literally nothing in there that has the potential for harm.

So I ask again: what - specifically - is the concern for safety here, considering the testing period has fully covered the lifetime of every component of vaccine put inside every volunteer? In other words, everyone who’s tested this no longer has any trace of any part of the vaccine left in their system at this point, so what are we afraid of except progress?

Excellent news! With any luck, distribution will go smoothly and we’ll see a massive drop in infections over the coming few months so we can finally return to normal.

Wait. So this type of vaccine has not been used before on humans?

So it is NOT LIKE previous immunizations for the flu, small pox, etc.

No thanks.

Lol. Fool. We will never return to normal. The global reset is underway. The globalists will not allow it.

We moved from gen1 vaccines (weakened/inactivated viruses, polio, measles, mumps, flu) to gen2 vaccines (antigen-based vaccines, pertussis, meningitis B, hepatitis B, etc.) without a hitch. Did you freak out when those began to emerge in the 1990s?

And most of the COVID-19 vaccines are gen1 or gen2 vaccines (NOT mRNA platform), so are you okay with those? Or is this all a big shroud hiding general anti-vaxxer sentiment?

"Yes. One is hell be damned brute force and the other requires a lot due diligence precision."

Which statement shows you know zip about either topic. I got my dissertation minor in nuclear chemistry, and with that background I tell you that controlling the atom requires as much or more "diligent precision" than does development of a vaccine.

You are kidding, right. One technology you care about life the other, you dont. That IS THE POINT.

BTW, there was a fear the bomb would ignite the upper atmosphere. That it might run away. We were at war and any risks be damned was the attitude. Btw, Americans were exposed to high levels of radiation during the testing. There were risks.

I certainly hope that you are not advocating for a risks be damned we are at war attitude towards the vaccine.

Agreed!

Joey who is 20 and healthy is unlikely to need a vaccine to survive the COVID-19 pandemic, or even avoid becoming mildly ill. COVID-19, however, needs Joey unvaccinated so it can kill Grandma Josey.

Might I add, Joe Bite Me and Co. need Joey unvaccinated so cases and fatalities stay high and they can gain further control of, well, almost everyone.

Here is the point that you and those like you don't understand. Let me educated you.

THE MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT F'D MAJORLY UP WITH THE WHOLE COVID PADEMIC. AND YOU WANT US TO BELIEVE YOU NOW????

No masks, then masks, then no masks, then masks, then flatten the curve and we can all go back to normal and yet we are still in virtual or actual lock down 8 MONTHS LATER with no end in sight. And any attempt to discuss the science, notice that I said science, is shut down by our betters who know what is best for us and what we should and shouldn't be allowed to see.

And now they are telling us that the vaccination works and that we can call get back to normal once everyone is inoculated. Apparently that is a lie too. The latest from Fauxi is that getting the vaccine doesn't mean that we can go back to normal.

BS! BS! BS! BS! BS! BS! BS~ BS! BS! BS! BS! BS! BS! and BS!

Actually, the target has not been so tough. COVID-19 has been much more stable than any flu I know of. There DO seem to be 2 strains, which is an interesting argument, given their apparent stability, for a situation where lab employees were selling animals from the lab.

When you say "Right now our system is overflowing with covid patients receiving hospital care and expensive treatments. are you describing the US health care system in general, your own local situation, or, both?

I know earlier this year you were describing the situation at your hospital as not so bad -- obviously, things can change.
