A University of Washington global health expert said the United States could reach a coronavirus death toll higher than that of the historic 1918 Spanish Flu as the virus continues to spread at a fast rate.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), it is estimated that the Spanish Flu pandemic killed about 675,000 people in the United States.
On Thursday morning, data from UW's Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) indicated the U.S. could reach a death toll of more than 399,000 deaths by Feb. 1, 2021. If safety mandates are relaxed, the country could see 514,000 deaths by early 2021.
"Our behaviors are not helping us and we are seeing a rapid increase of cases and deaths, and unfortunately we may surpass what we have seen in 1918 if we continue this behavior," said Dr. Ali Mokdad, a professor of global health at IHME.

You’re peddling fear by making people think we don’t know what’s going on. Like Alfred Hitchcock, just trying to scare the Hell out of people with the unknown.
No, we do know what the R0 really is. We do know what the Infection Fatality Rate is. We know how it spreads. We know who is most vulnerable to it. We know how to control it and we know how to stop it.
We know all we need to know about it to put an end to it and it’s going to end very soon. You can peddle your fear all you want, but nobody needs to buy into it. We know exactly what we’re dealing with and thanks to President Trump’s leadership early on, it’ll all be over months - perhaps as much as a year - sooner than it would have been.
The ex-spurts speakth, all hail the ex-spurts.
If they are gonna pull that off, they had better kick up theCFR...because right now we are lagging behind falling in the shower.
“In the U.S., about 28% of the population of 105 million became infected, and 500,000 to 850,000 died (0.48 to 0.81 percent of the population)”
-Wiki
So, AT MINIMUM .48% died a century ago.
So far, we’re at .08%. If it gets to the LOW estimate of the Spanish Flu, that’s about .15%. The high est, it’s .26%.
Don’t try to scare me with mere cardinal numbers.
It’s % of the pop that counts.
The saviors of mankind await our adulation.
And how many have died specifically because of Covid? One tenth of the total? Comparing this to the Spanish flu, when there were cures out there for Covid, is not only absurd, it is obscene.
