Why is it that the overall COVID-19 recovery rate is between 97% and 99.75% and this is considered “unacceptable,” yet a vaccine is 90% effective and this is something for which we should rejoice?

You’re looking at the CDC, it depends on what and how many strains there are at the time. They are going to push flu vaccines, just like masks, shutting down the economy, etc.

Looks like a Project Warp Speed success. Too bad they couldn’t release this a week or two ago but it is what it is and this can go in the Trump presidency win column.
I’m not sure if Pfizer is one of those Trump paid to start manufacturing during trials so there would be some significant stock pile to begin release to high risk groups and first responders.

Trump made this point a few times that big pharma was against him because of his efforts to get drug prices down. I think it was lost in the election fray and media disinformation. They ran covert anti Trump ads in Georgia aimed at his voters saying basically, “why would our guy do that? He puts America first”

The numbers from the CDC come from studies performed in multiple sites around the US each year looking at the effectiveness of the flu vaccine using three separate, independent sources for the information. Unless you’re trying to claim there’s some massive nation-wide conspiracy among doctors, hospitals, the CDC, and everyone operating the study sources, the numbers are what they are.
The flu vaccine is 40-60% effective depending on the year.

Math is not a strong suit I see. If the vaccines are 90% effective that means only ten percent of the population is then subject to a 97_99%% recovery rate not 100% of the exposed population as this is a novel virus that no human on earth has natural immunity too. The effect is mathematically compounded not either or. The difference is an order of magnitude lower death counts. Put in numbers the current CFR for all ages varies from 3 to 1 percent with a 90% effective vaccine and those same CFR rates the compounded death rate would be 0.87 to 0.89 percent which is still eight times higher than the average seasonal influenza CFR of 0.1 percent
