Well I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. The last three appointees to head the FBI were career federal prosecutors with rock solid bona fides in the justice system and how the FBI functions. They all made it more corrupt there to the point where the FBI has lost 100% of it's credibility as a law enforcement agency. Maybe someone who isn't an insider is the way to go.

But if Trump does want to go down the path of bringing in someone with a career law enforcement background I certainly think someone who is (1) not a federal prosecutor (2) is a real cop and (3) is not from the FedGov is the way to go. So a guy like David Clarke would be good, if he'd do it. My concern is that such a person would have too much affinity and respect for the agents and the institution and would be reluctant to take a wrecking ball approach. That's what's needed.

That’s why you bring in outside IG & legal staff to do a top to bottom audit\investigation. They do the real work. Since they’re outsiders there is no potential career cost for them to do their job. The head guy is just the guy who reports to the President & Congress. He just needs to be able to withstand the storm of criticism\accusations from th Rats in Congress & the media. If it’s someone like Clarke the criticism will come with political cost.
