Kimberly Budd is poised to take the reins as chief justice of the states Supreme Judicial Court where she promises to foster a team of equals and draw on her lifetime of experience.
Budd has served the Massachusetts judiciary for 11 years. She was first nominated by Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick in 2009 to the state Superior Court when the late Chief Justice Ralph Gants vacated the bench to join the SJC.
In her 2016 confirmation hearing, Budd laid out her opposition to the death penalty and to imposing mandatory minimum sentences.
She also said she doesnt see any reason why an illegal immigrant couldnt have a drivers license a stance that puts her at odds with Bakers, but one that wasnt enough to deter the Republican governor from nominating the really bright, really smart justice.
Weve never been a single-issue administration on anything, and were certainly not going to start now, Baker said.
Budd told reporters she is registered as an unenrolled voter. She has donated to several political campaigns in the past including Patrick, former Democratic Attorney General Thomas Reillys gubernatorial bid and Barack Obamas first presidential campaign.

Elect libtards
Then
Live under idiocy and tyranny
Massachusetts - where even the republicans are democrats!
I grew up with my Dad being friend with her father in law.
They both worked at the post office. They would lend tools to each other. I was just a little kid and it never dawned on me that a white guy might not be friends with a black guy in 1966.
He was the nicest guy you could ever meet. His kid was always nice to me.
There is more to life than politics. She married into a good family.
:)
No kidding
Sorry, but until our side truly starts winning some big political battles in this country (much of what Trump has done has been done via EO - easily reversible), politics will definitely matter. Our side had better be ready to battle regardless of whether Trump wins or loses.
You may not care about politics, but politics cares about you.
Until they force you to bake a cake, close down your restaurant, let guys into girl sports, take your police and selfbdefense away....but nice people otherwise.
