I really feel that Rush saved America. Back in the late 1980s, early 1990s, he was kind of a lone voice in the wilderness. I was an ignorant 20-something, a knee-jerk Democrat, and the only conservatives I had even heard of were Ronald Reagan, Cal Thomas, and Rush Limbaugh... and Rush was the one all liberals feared the most. When I started drifting Right, any point I made when arguing with Lefties, was met with "Where'd you hear that, Rush Limbaugh??" He was like the Bogeyman to them.

I hope he lives to see Trump re-elected.

“”Where’d you hear that, Rush Limbaugh??””

Well said...I remember those days when people bashed him and I asked if they’d ever listened to him. I started listening to him when he was in Sacramento. The answer I always got was “No - can’t stand him”. They never had an explanation of how they knew they couldn’t stand him if they never listened to him. I was on vacation one year in the late ‘80’s and I asked my brother that question and that was the answer I got. It never had to make sense to the people making such asinine statements - dems all!!

I was a leftist, pretty radical, read the Progressive, the Nation, Zmagazine, Utne reader...

One of the magazines had an article about this man called Rush Limbaugh. In the article the author spoke about how friendly and polite this talk show host was to his guests. And that all over the midwest from 1 to 3 diners and resturaunts paused to listen to Rush.

So one day I decided to try to find this phenomenon so I kept turning the dial on the radio in the SAAB. And I found him. This had to be 1991 - 3? Unsure. I listened to him as he provided a different take on women’s lib, and just about everything else I understood.

I was charmed. He was funny, witty and a bit off the wall, but ever so rational.

It was the beginning of a long walk to conservatism
