Cornyn says he broke with Trump on deficit, border wall, but kept opposition private
Star-Telegram ^ | Oct 18 2020 | GORDON DICKSON

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn acknowledged Friday that at times he has disagreed with President Trump on issues such as budget deficits and debt, tariffs and trade agreements and border security.

But, the senior Republican senator from Texas, who is being challenged by Democrat MJ Hegar, said he chose to work on those disagreements with the president’s staff in private discussions, rather than by publicly voicing his opposition.

Don’t forget:

- Endorse and expand the Black Lives Matter/AntiFa attacks on civil society and business, while excusing or ignoring the arson, looting, rapine and murder.

But hey, it’s okay for people to lose their legal livelihoods, get raped and murdered just to ‘send a message’ to RINOs! /s

Purity? LOL. I voted for Romney and McCain. Lindsay Graham didn’t even vote for POTUS. And you have the gall to accuse GOP base voters of seeking purity after that?

Are you really comfortable with Mueller’s Democrats running the Trump DOJ? Are you really comfortable with the Senate failing to act on the Biden corruption info given to them on a silver platter? Are you a Democrat by chance? I can see no other reason for being supportive of the GOP Senate given their full support of the ongoing coup against POTUS.

What action has Cornyn and the GOP controlled Senate taken against antifa/BLM? Did they light a rocket under Wray after his outragous dismissal of antifa? Of course not. Of course Senator Johnson did float the idea of getting rid Columbus Day. That was withdrawn after he received a well deserved verbal beat down from Tucker Carlson.

Yes he is a globalist RINO. Still voted for him (reluctantly) because I don’t want to jeopardize the Senate. Hopefully we can find some redeeming qualities in him after the election...hopefully.

Cornyn is a globalist swine and not to be trusted.

Got that right. After he is reelected, he'll go right back to being a globalist swine.

“Are you a Democrat by chance? “

Do you REALLY want me to list the stuff that Trump has done to effectively support the Deep State, like not firing Sessions and Rosenstein until it was too late and thereby handing the House to the Democrats (for starters)?

So, no, I’m no more a Democrat than Trump is.

Actually, POTUS did publicly float the idea of firing Sessions. That was met by stiff resistance from the GOP Senate who in hindsight clearly used the Mueller Coup to hamstring POTUS. Infamously, Lindsay Graham publicly threatened POTUS over the issue and said he would not confirm Sessions replacement. Where was John Cornyn when Graham was carrying water for progressive Democrats? He was AWOL.

There are no GOP, GOPe or RINOs in the Senate who have come right out and endorsed BLM - unlike most Democrats.

I voted for him too like I would vote for MJ Hager never. She ran in 2018 to defeat John Carter’s House seat she lost but now she went for a senate seat. hell no she is just another commie baby killer democrat who has no business being IN Washington.

We shall disagree on this. It isn’t personal. I won’t argue this any further, because it is like that old proverb about teaching a pig to sing. (Not accusing anyone of being a pig, though many of us guys fit that description now and again as a matter of course)

I have come to the conclusion we conservatives are going to have to find a way to win without some people who claim to care for the future of the country, including some on this very forum, who see their only choices as not voting, or even voting for people I view as domestic enemies of this Republic.

I have to move ahead with my choices on this without malice towards those who I have familial feelings for in the conservative community. And that means many people I converse with here on a daily basis, and enjoy conversing with.

On this, I simply don’t agree in any way shape or form with the concept of voting in a pure leftist so that I don’t have to say at some point I voted for a candidate that didn’t support my values in some area important to me. I cannot see how that works.

We can’t very well say “Well, you live in Texas. Go ahead and vote in a true Leftist to get rid of a fake conservative you don’t like, but we will want conservatives in other states with other poor candidates to vote their poor politicians in so we can possible retain a majority.”

Those conservatives in other states would have to live with the stain on their principles, even if someone’s principles in Texas get to remain squeaky clean as a result.

But we can’t do that. Those people should be allowed to vote for Leftists, too. We have to be consistent.

By this logic, we would have to surrender the Senate, and by a non-Veto proof margin, too.

If we need to live up to our principles above everything else, Cornyn isn’t the only Senatorial seat we have to hand over to the Left.

Romney. Graham. Murkowski. Collins. Rubio. Even McConnell according to some. I am certain there are even more that don’t pass some kind of test.

There is a saying that, you don’t get to go to battle with the forces you want, you have to go into battle with the forces you have.

We are going to have to fight with what we have. And we are going to have to find a way to win with the voters we have. If there are people who are ostensibly on our side, but are going to vote in Leftists to remain pure and stick to a principle, the rest of us are going to have to do the heavy lifting and find a way to win without those who have to stick to those principles.

We are willing to do that, even knowing we will have to endure the complaints for the next x-amount of years from those who need to maintain their principles, and putting our unprincipled backs in front of the knives from our own Senators which do inevitably come, all in an effort not only to protect those whose lack of intelligence and dogma won’t allow them to vote in people who would be better for them (that would be Leftist voters) but also to protect those who should be voting with us but won’t do so to maintain a purity of principle (some on our own side).

And we will gladly do it, because...we don’t feel there is a choice. Of course, we will be the targets of lots of Monday Morning quarterbacking and “I told you so’s”, but that is the price we feel we must pay.

Others will feel differently. I hope to maintain amicable relationships with those people, because I sure cannot do that with the vast majority of Leftists who wish to accomplish their goals however they can.

Do you really want me to go into the GOP Senate voting against Trump’s national emergency on the border, Ryan refusing to fund the wall and general backstabbing, the long history of amnesty pushers in the GOP Senate (Cornyn included), etc.? I don’t think so.

I’m wasting my time with you guys...the concept of Democrats having One Party Rule and what that means to survival of the country, I guess, is simply not comprehendable to many people on our side.

But you’ll likely get to see it soon, up close and personal.

Well thought out post. The error you make is assuming that the GOP Senate is with us. They are not. They may vote the way we want when they have no choice but in general on policy and spending they represent the Chamber of Commerce and not Main Street.

We go into this battle with POTUS and that is it. We are an army without generals. When we need the GOP most you can count on them being AWOL. Time and again in the Age of Trump the GOP have preferred progressive Democrats and their policies to POTUS and the MAGA agenda. I wish it was different but it is what it is.

I know.

I guess that if I accept the GOP Senate isn’t with us, then...that is an even more dire problem.

I readily do accept that we have dire governmental problems. No doubt abut that. This last impeachment, the Flynn Case, the Spygate case, and the Kavanaugh thing, oh hell...all of it...drives that point home.

The only bright spot in this is Trump, who seems to go on no matter what like the Energizer Bunny. Which drives them absolutely mad.

At least, there is that.
