Well, the last big family gathering, some of the cousins went at each other with knives with several ending up in the hospital, there were gigantic verbal fights between all the siblings of my parents’ generation wherein they dredged up 50+ years of grudges, all the food was burned to near inediblility and we were all preemptively told that we should “f**king eat it and not complain.” Which started more fights.
I don’t go to family events any more. So, no, giving up a family Thanksgiving is not a sacrifice for me - and I hope you can see why.
